holiday weekends are the best time to avoid provincial parks. it's crazy busy out there.

“pelee doesn't offer any camping for the general public-only scout groups i think. the closest provincial park to pelee is wheatley. it's all car/trailer camping there(not much wilderness) i don't think i've been to that one so i can't give you any more info than that. you could look it up on the ontario pp site.

the pinery isn't on a direct route from the border to here but if you come through sarnia, it would be do-able. it's located about an hour north of sarnia and about an hour northwest of london, along the lake. it has nice groomed trails(not exactly wilderness either) and a TON of people there all summer; you have to reserve well in advance to get a site. the beaches are fantastic all along that part of lake huron - that's part of what makes the pinery so popular.

don't forget that sw ontario is densely populated...towns and farms are about it for around here. the best camping is a bit farther north
