The news showed a cardinal walking in and a lady taking his coat. How bad would it suck to be the coat check person for 1000 people with identical coat/capes. I think there's a FAR SIDE cartoon in there somewhere.” 11:41:18 AM 4/19/05 “Did the Associated Press pick this up yet? Ya know, nothing is official until AP runs it...LOL” 11:43:24 AM 4/19/05 “Oh come on DH, you know their names are written inside the collars!” 11:44:46 AM 4/19/05 “LMAO, dayhiker!!! Imagine someone lookin' for their pants at Woodstock '69. "Uh, what color was yer pants, man?" "Uh.......blue..........man." last edited: 4/19/05 11:46:39 AM” 11:45:03 AM 4/19/05 habemus papam “http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/vaticanpope They should be announcing the new Pope soon!” 11:50:06 AM 4/19/05 “Got Pope???” 11:51:00 AM 4/19/05 “LOL” 11:54:00 AM 4/19/05 “Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany becomes the 265th pope of the Roman Catholic Church.” 11:59:18 AM 4/19/05 I can't help it; I'm a teacher. “It's habamvs papam, habemvs papamis: Let us have a Pope.” 11:59:32 AM 4/19/05 “Pope Joe would of been much better then ....Benedict last edited: 4/19/05 12:00:49 PM” 12:00:23 PM 4/19/05 12:01:57 PM 4/19/05 “I like Pope Nimrod better!” 12:02:49 PM 4/19/05 “What, no Pope Guido???” 12:05:06 PM 4/19/05 “why do they always pick an old guy as Pope. The last Pope was the exception to the rule. Remember he replaced one that had been Pope for a week then died.” 12:08:05 PM 4/19/05 ““why do they always pick an old guy as Pope. The last Pope was the exception to the rule. Remember he replaced one that had been Pope for a week then died.” Ewker 1:08:05 PM 4/19/05 ignore this user No, but considering I was only 16 days old when John Paul II became Pope, I have a good excuse.” 12:12:51 PM 4/19/05 “oh shut up lumberzac...lol..damn your a baby” 12:17:50 PM 4/19/05 “.......even Pope Joey, to use a USED name how conservative! The 16th. What if Lincoln was George Washington the 16th. Mmmmm LZ was 16 days old when John Paul the II was elected Wow its got to be a prophecy!” 12:38:39 PM 4/19/05 “NOOOO!!!!! Heeheeheee I saw him yesterday, the man looked like he's about to fall over and die! how old, 79?? last edited: 4/19/05 12:57:06 PM” 12:47:53 PM 4/19/05 “"crying"...LOL @ MarkO! isn't there some rule saying the elected Pope has to be old as dirt? most of my knowledge of popes is limited to what i learned in some book by the guy who wrote The Davinci Code, so what do i know. hmmm, maybe i shouldn't admit that out loud?” 12:51:34 PM 4/19/05 “yeah...I thought they already stood in line to become pope for many, many, MANY long years, thus the reason why they are so freakin' old. No? not sure though, I am not catholic last edited: 4/19/05 12:58:32 PM” 12:56:43 PM 4/19/05 “As a Catholic, I hope our new pope brings about reform. The sex abuse scandel just about broke my faith in the Church. I know most pastors are good and respectful. The few that commit those crimes should not be protected by the Church. I was also hoping for a pope from other than Europe. I think a pope from Asia, Africa or South America would bring a rebirth to the Church. I think John Paul II was a good pope, but basically the old guard has been elected.” 1:06:45 PM 4/19/05 The unrepresented continent! “How about a pope from Antarctica? Now, that would be novel! Pope Penguin I!” 1:09:13 PM 4/19/05 “Pope Jo Jo I.......” 1:16:37 PM 4/19/05 Early Biography of the Pope “Joseph Ratzinger was born in Marktl am Inn, in Bavaria, the son of a police officer who was staunchly anti-Nazi. In 1937 Ratzinger's father retired and settled in the town of Traunstein. When Ratzinger turned 14 in 1941, he was required by law to join the Hitler Youth, but according to his biographer John Allen he was not an enthusiastic member. He requested to be taken off the rolls and reportedly refused to attend a single meeting. In 1943, at the age of 16 he was, along with the rest of his class, drafted into the Flak or anti-aircraft corps, responsible for the guarding of a BMW plant outside Munich. He was then sent for basic infantry training and was posted to Hungary, where he worked setting up anti-tank defences until fleeing in April 1944 (an offense punishable by death). In 1945 he was briefly held in an Allied POW camp, where he attended de-Nazification classes. By June he was released, and he and his brother (Georg) entered a Catholic seminary. On June 29, 1951, they were ordained by Cardinal Faulhaber of Munich.” 1:23:37 PM 4/19/05 “The only reason I even care is that I was hoping they'd reconsider allowing birth control. Considering the vatican's tendency to be about 200 years behind reality we could be a world of hurt by the time they realize there's a problem.” 1:32:25 PM 4/19/05 “This was a bad choice.” 1:35:00 PM 4/19/05 “National Catholic Reporter: "In 1986, at an international conference on church music in Rome, Ratzinger described rock music as a "vehicle of anti-religion.''"” 1:41:23 PM 4/19/05 “for real though...time to party like it's the 18th Century or something.” 1:44:12 PM 4/19/05 show must go on “Pope is dead. Hail to new pope.” 1:45:16 PM 4/19/05 “This is the church equivalent of telling all the non-conservatives in the church to go screw themselves. He's 78, right?” 1:49:11 PM 4/19/05 “When deciding on a successor, why do the cardinals stand around and smoke their popes?” 1:56:04 PM 4/19/05 “Ya know? it just might be an Andropov (to be followed by a Gorbachev) sorta thing.” 2:18:27 PM 4/19/05 Droppin' Off ?? ““National Catholic Reporter: "In 1986, at an international conference on church music in Rome, Ratzinger described rock music as a "vehicle of anti-religion.''"” Talk about behind the times, white folks in the U.S. were saying that in 1956!!” 3:10:45 PM 4/19/05 “Maybe someone should tell him Elvis is dead!” 3:29:17 PM 4/19/05 “ ”3:38:20 PM 4/19/05 “ah, he won't be around so long anyhow.” 3:43:57 PM 4/19/05 “I waited and waited, hoping Father Guido Sarducci would come on and tell us all about the new pope. We may habemus papam, but we don't habemus Sarducci!” 3:50:38 PM 4/19/05 “Dang, I was hoping I would be elected as the new Pope. Of course, the fact that I'm not Catholic may have played a part in it....” 4:17:01 PM 4/19/05 “pure descrimination BMan” 4:22:30 PM 4/19/05 “Shoot low boys, they're ridin Shetland ponies.” 4:34:32 PM 4/19/05 “A California boy knows about Grizzard? Very nice.” 4:37:32 PM 4/19/05 “I'm really a Missouri boy in disguise.” 4:41:05 PM 4/19/05 “You know what irks me about this pope thing. This whole time when we've been reading about the passing of the pope and the electing of the new one, it's almost like Catholics are worshipping the Pope himself. Like the person who said "it's just not Easter without the Pope." Ummm...yes...it is.” 4:44:02 PM 4/19/05
