“Now in our new laptots at work (hospital) they restricted emails (yahoo, hotmail) besides games, chats... Sux” 1:43:26 PM 4/19/05 “laptots? LOL... brings to mind a certain lawsuit....” 2:27:08 PM 4/19/05 “Judging by my sometimes behavior and that of many people I've worked with, I don't blame employers for limiting access.” 3:40:16 PM 4/19/05 “I am much more productive when I'm on restrictions... case in point... today...” 3:42:04 PM 4/19/05 “I am At work right now.” 5:35:40 PM 4/19/05 “our IT dept restricts (rather severly) anything shopping, game or "personal storage" related, like webshots. But TT doesn't fall into any of those categories.” 6:02:18 PM 4/19/05 “Maybe they restricted it because the company actually pays for the bandwidth and doesn't want employees wasting it on non-business related activities. I guess TT is OK on the laptots.” 8:10:51 PM 4/19/05 “...or the employer pays the employees to work?” 8:22:35 PM 4/19/05 “i think it has something to do with the latter my god, i'm agreeing with bacpac, guess it had to happen sooner or later.” 8:27:01 PM 4/19/05 “the gubmint wont let bwmctell see my journal. nothing pervy in it, i swear!” 8:40:19 PM 4/19/05 “yes. webshots don't work at work cause it's considered download page... -(” 7:26:12 AM 4/20/05 “The hospital in Fairbanks was great on this issue. The non profit hospital group that operated it felt that letting employees play on the internet was a good thing, allowing them to learn about, it use it, broaden horizons.” 7:49:00 AM 4/20/05 “I REQUESTED the IT dept to restrict my access to the internet. (I'm posting from home)” 8:37:47 AM 4/20/05 “no restriction for me at work or i will quit!! of course i have to wait until my boss gets through with her card games and if we are busy i'm not on. we use the computer to order frames and lenses and search catalogs for patients.” 11:25:05 AM 4/20/05 “I try to stay off of it as much as I can. But I do email friends all day long. But it only takes a minute or two to type up an email. As for TT and other fun stuff, I try not to be on all day. Just first thing in the morning, once at lunch and before I go home.” 12:50:09 PM 4/20/05 Can someone 'splain this please? “I'm sure I am the only one here ever to bend the rules and peek at TT while at work (sarcasm font) but just noticed a recent change. Up until last Friday I could peek all the time with no problems. Then last Friday I noticed that whenever I tuned into TT, Internet Explorer would lock up and give me the "not responding" message. I almost always happened when I would click on a thread, but sometimes it would lock up on just the main page or when I would try to close out the page altogether. It does not happen on my PC at home. I thought it may be the eyes and ears at work trying to tell me something, but I also noticed that I can use other sites (search engines, news sites, etc) with no problem at all. What gives? Any ideas? I thought maybe it had something to do with the new inflatable TNF ads. Tx!” 4:31:54 PM 3/28/06 “Take an empty box to work tomorrow.” 4:51:19 PM 3/28/06 “!!!!!!!!” 6:25:15 PM 3/28/06 “Those TNF ads are most obnoxious!” 6:31:30 PM 3/28/06 “Happening at work to me too. Pretty sure its the new ads at the bottom of the browser.” 7:05:04 PM 3/28/06 “It could be the supervisor......I Say quit the job and find one you can read TT on every day” 7:49:09 AM 3/29/06 “NC, I had a similar problem recently. But, solving it was tricky. I had to call IT in Philly to inform them, but did not want to press "personal" sites as my reason for calling. I was not able to log onto any sites that required a password, for some reason. Now, those were generally the personal ones. Then, I found one (my spam filter) that wouldn't let me on to clear it. So, I called them. After much pondering and coming up blank, one of the guys simply re-eneterd my profile and then it worked.v The xact cause of the mess: not sure. I do know it had something to do with the computer not accepting the cookies...” 7:55:06 AM 3/29/06 “Try turning off Shockwave Flash in your browser (IE only): - Select from the pull-down menus Tools -> Options - Click on "Programs" tab - Click on "Manage Add-ons" - Click on "Shockwave Flash object" - Click on "Disable" button - Click on "Ok" when it tells you that you will have to restart your browser. - Click on "Ok" to save the settings. Restar IE and all the Flash nonsense will be gone... note gone from all sites, not just TT. Bliss! (for me) I just turn it on when I want it. I agree that TNF ad makes me want to NOT purchase their products. Some marketing person should be fired for that. Anti-marketing. I just bought an MSR tent and was looking at a TNF tent the other day. I have to wonder now of this influenced my choice! It just might have.” 7:56:46 AM 3/29/06 “we recently got a new internet filter too...it goes by how a website is registered...they mainly put it into place to keep people from checking personal email accounts from work because viruses were getting in that way...it blocks any site that is registered as a web log, web based email and of course the dreaded porn” 8:15:51 AM 3/29/06 “I like the TNF ads. I mean real ads for real outdoor stuff. And ya can register to win free stuff. Much better than the crap like win an free Ipod Nano, or Punch George W and win a plasma TV. Thats f@(%ing annoying.” 9:59:58 AM 3/29/06 “NC Dept. of Corrections has stopped just about all internet access. Only supervisors have access and that is severly limited. All activity is monitored through the state network so who ever logs on and is doing anything non work related will receive discinplinary. My job used to be fun. last edited: 3/29/06 11:17:23 AM” 11:16:27 AM 3/29/06 “I dont even own a computer, yet, still. All my tt time is on the computer at work. On my days off and vacation time I dont get to see what goes on tt. sometimes when I encounter problems on the computer here at work I say to myself, again that I have to break down and finally get myself one. one of these days.” 5:30:46 PM 3/29/06
