They'll Write Songs About This Trip
Just got back. A full trip report and pictures will be ready by tonight or tomorrow.

Great, great time. Great to see Pennsy, Monkeyboy, SkeetahBait, Abster, and several other people I knew that I ran into unexpectedly on the trails. Total Twilight Zone, but in a good way.

Anwyay, we bagged:

1. North Kinsman
2. South Kinsman
3. Tecumseh
4. Jackson
5. Lincoln
6. Lafayette
7. Moosilauke

30 down. Just 18 more to go.

More details soon....

None falling, but plenty of it at spots in the upper elevations, especially just below treeline.

I thought it never snowed in the Whites.

nice picts. Nice report.

the bail out on cannon was not a bad call.

I did S & N Kinsman last year together with Cannon.

the trail from N. Kinsman to Cannon goes on forever, up and down up and down . . sometimes very steeply. The last ascent up Cannon is straight up. Hand over hand on ledges and boulders covered with loose eroding rock.

Its kind of fun in a freakish way. But it was hard work. WIth snow cover it only would have been harder.

I had done Techumseh the day before. then hiked up to the Lonesome Lake hut late in the afternoon for dinner and to spend the night.

On my way back down Cannon I picked up my overnight stuff at L. Lake and headed down to the car. The next day I did both Cabot and . . .and .. . ..shoot. . ..the low one over off Route 2 by Starr King.

Great trip report, Artex, and awwwwwesome pics! Wow, wow, wow, this was one of the best trips I've been on. 5 nights and 4 days of just perfect weather and hiking. EVERY night was clear with temps between 28 and 40, and every day was clear with temps between 45 and 70. Just perfect camping and hiking weather. I can't add much to Artex's great report since he covered it so well, but I do have to differ on a few commnets: "Our crampons allowed us to fly up the trail like Spiderman" and "As Bruce and I ascended the trail to see what waterfall would be next, we nearly forgot that we were climbing". Errrrrrrr, I never forgot what we were climbing and I certainly was NOT Spiderman. I stumbled, crawled, and crept up those mountains, but I don't regret one step of it.

I was saddened that Suzy, Chelsie, and Tuscany had to leave early, but I hope to hike with them again soon. Oh, I guess I'll miss the humans (Monkeyboy, Skeetah, and Abster) they brought along as well. ;o)
It's always fun to hang with the honeymooners (MB and Skeetah), and I enjoyed meeting Abster. Hopefully, the next time, we'll get to spend more time together.

Back to unpacking. Pics tomorrow night.

great trip report and pics Artex! I'm supremely jealous. I'll be in the Smokies this weekend, but it looks like it will rain in low elevations and snow in upper elevations. So I will not be blessed with the same weather you guys were.

Looking forward to the pics Pennsy, as well as the Blackhead pics. :)

Can't wait to see the pics, Pennsy. BTW, my altimeter is better than yours.

Wish you could have made it, EarthNSky. It was... in a word... epic.

Pennsy, it was great watching the dogs frolic about. The next day, our 10 year old dog, after trying to keep up with the 1 year old puppies... well, she just didn't feel like she had to keep up with anyone the next day. Poor doggie. She's back up and atem the next day though. All is well.

It was great to meet up with you guys, even though I couldn't bag any peaks with you. Wait til next time!!!

Here be my pics. Enjoy.

Some footnotes:
Hawaiian pizza rules!
Wearing crampons for 8 hours on regular hiking boots can cause nasty blisters if you cinch them too tight.
I tried out my Hennessy hammock when the temp dropped into the 20's. I used a 15 degree bag and a Z-rest, and was a little chilly. Not enough for me to run back to the tent but enough that I think I'll make my minimum hammock temp 35 degrees or warmer.

Hey guys, nice report and pictures! It was a pleasure to meet you all and see Artex again - although I did have to threaten at least once to throw him down in the snow!

Glad to have brought the 'space' grill and the pups. They had SUCH a great time!! It was nice to meet Suzie : )

Pennsy, I can't believe you tried out the hammock. Brave man! (or was it a sufficiency of that honey bourbon?)

I will look forward to hiking and camping with you all again! Nice to have a brief opportunity to chat with each of you.

Thanks, Abster. Trust me, it's not that brave when there is a tent 5 feet away from the hammock, and a car nearby. I saved the honey bourbon for the next trip. We drank your wine (thanks!) and the "gifts" from the VFTT guys.

MB - try the link again, and think again about Artex the EbaSnob. You'll get it. ;o)
