Carrying 20D and 100-400 lens
I will be taking my first backpacking trip next month. The main reason for the trip is to take wild life pictures. One of the big questions is how to carry my camera and lens? Canon does not recommand the you carry the Carry the 20D and 100-400 lens just hanging from your neck. Does anybody have any suggestions? I need one way the carry the camera with a backpack on and then another way once I setup camp and just walking about.

Thanks.

Pack light and wrap your camera in a sweater or something to keep it protected in the top of your backpack (in a ziploc in case it rains). Then pack a lightweight school-type backpack and use that for dayhiking with gear away from base camp.

That's what I'd do.

You should ask Buck or Pennsy. They are the photo gurus around these parts.

Carl go to a camera shop or surf around on the web. There are lots of packs and pack accessories designed for photographers and large lenses etc.

Unfortunately the title of your thread may not interest the people who know the most about this.

Here's another thread where this sort of thing was discussed

LoweAlpine camera bags...they make them with harness's for front wear. REI carries most of the line. Most serious photogs I know have them.
