Further, it's pretty self-centered to make a proclamation of ones "bad-assed status" based purely on an ill-advised area of injection of ink material. While the marked area will facilitate as an average level conversation piece, it is very clear that the owner of this tat is nothing more than an attention whore -- no offense, of course.

“i don't know what it's origin is sass. was searching GatherNoMoss one night and came upon it. The site it was at had the following underneath it...so I'm not sure if the guy drew it or if it goes back farther.
We can`t have progress without change, though unfortunately the reverse is not true. It's an absolutely great book and has a lot of good (in my case unsuspected) information about tattoo artists and hookers...in case you ever decided to become one or the other:) This is the same guy who wrote "Cider House Rules" and "The World According To Garp".”
