Elk Trail
Has anyone hiked/backpacked the Elk Trail in Pennsylvania? I know where it is (in ELK county) but I would like to know the conditions and traffic. I understand that it is a relatively new trail, which is why I can't seem to find much information on it. During the fall rut I hear that the area becomes very crowded with people viewing the Elk herd(s).

We backpacked it several years ago. It was described in the "Pennsylvania Hiking Trails" book put out by KTA. (We have the 12th edition - I don't know about later editions.) It is only 17 miles - easy hiking with some good camping midway. We no longer have the maps and detailed trail info, but I think the State Forest map will do.

Is it in the Coudersport area?

Yes, the elk trail is a little to the west of the Coudersport area. I hope to go and see some Elk, but wasn't sure of the trail and/or how crowded it might be.
