I didn't get much sleep, sacco. To read the thread from where I left off was entertaining, to say the least. I'm not sure where that comment came from but it was there so I let it out.

I think I'm glad I've been too busy working to pay atention to TT today. Now that I'm here, just a couple little comments / clarifications for the record:

1. For MarkO and his admiring fans: I didn't say anything negative about you, personally in this thread, MarkO. I didn't call you names, etc. All I did was question why it seems, from a casual observer, that anyone who doesn't believe what you believe is somehow beneath human-being status, according to you. Here's my actualy quote - notice that there's nothing in the way of a personal attack here!

Hey MarkO

Just curious, is there some reason you feel the need to be so condescending toward people of belief?

Personally, I don't believe in any organized religeon, so I'm not responding to anything you said that I would have taken personally, but you seem to have this "oh, you poor stupid people" attitude toward anyone who has a belief system different from yours?

I've always kinda' felt that everyone was on their own path... it seemed foolish, childish or just plain obnoxious, to make fun of someone who happened to believe something different than what I believed.”

2.0 For CrashBang.
Sorry, CB, but I just don't get the whole idea of "trolling" or, in my terms, intentionally trying to inflame / piss off others. That seems to be something for which you take great pride. I cannot relate to that at all, so am at a loss to try to communicate with you. In my opinion, you aren't trying to be a better human being who then makes life better for all, you seem to be trying to incite unrest, and then you congratule yourself whenever you succeed.

Personally, I feel sorry for you, and, quite honestly, for everyone with whom you come in contact. Your objective isn't to make life better for anyone, your objective is to taunt. How sad for you.

i wasnt intentionally trying to piss you off. but the way you thought you were telling me something really profound when you werent, and calling me immature at the same time you were calling me things like shallow and stupid, was really grating on my nerves. out of everyone on this thread, you are the one that could benefit the most by taking a step back and re-evaluating yourself.

Having just spent 4 days with CB and seeing him interact with 13 other people (5 of whom he lived with for 7wks or so) without quarrel kinda refutes that argument.

CB may well be a very different person in "real life" vs. what he presents here, in fact I think he probably is (I hope he is!)

But... Birch... this discussion isn't about how he acted this weekend... it's about what he posted here. Your experience with him this weekend is not in any way pertinent to this conversation.

"Personally, I feel sorry for you, and, quite honestly, for everyone with whom you come in contact."

This line broadens the scope well beyond this thread. It reference "everyone" CB has had contact with. My point is pertinent in that I have been around CB, both here and the trail.

Now back to the sidelines, for real...lol.

CB... please re-read my post, I didn't call you, personally any of the things you accused me of... what I said was:

"I'm going to get back on my "broad brush" bandwagon, it drives me nuts when people are too stupid, or shallow, to differentiate between groups & paint everyone with their broad brush.

Just to use CB's quote as an example...

“outside of militant islam, christianity is probably the one major religion that is the most intolerant of other religions. it should be no surprise that they're experiencing a backlash”

So.... CB... I wasn't atacking YOU, I was attacking stupid, shallow people.

I'm sorry if you put yourself in that category... I DIDN'T PUT YOU THERE, YOU DID!

you also said

"Picking on CB"

"Just to use CB's quote as an example..."

i took it as a clear insinuation that i was shallow and stupid

according to you, my post was an example of "painting with a broad brush"

people who do so are "too stupid, or shallow, to differentiate between groups"

how am i not supposed to be insulted by that?

now, if you said i was too lazy, then id agree. i was guilty of being too lazy to qualify my statement with a "but not all christians are like that"

WOW....just got on to see what is happening....LOL@MarkO. I have a few "Christian" associates I would love to see in that hat on top of a tall building in Downtown St Petersburg FL (LOL)...Lightning capital of the US I think.

To Clarify...seems short attention span is going on here.

1. I am a Christian, I am a Christian by FAITH not Religion. Meaning you believe what you want I believe what I want.
2. I really do not give a Rats Patootie whether you dislike my faith, will you go to He double toothpick...? That is between You and God. You will find out when you go to the final court where you cannot hire an attorney to find a loophole.
3. I have my faith because I have seen it work in my life and in others. I am just as disgusted by Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggert, Pat Robertson et al as most people. I will call them on it if I get a chance. But like a Hiker that sees another Hiker abuse the priviledge of their position (being in the outdoors and littering or destroying wildlife) I do what I can to correct it. My love of the outdoors is not eliminted just becuase someone violated the trust.
4. I do not believe becuase there is ample Archelogical evidence of Christ's exisitence but rather because it is my FAITH. Faith is not something based on physical evidence but rather on ...well...Faith.
5. The worst thing that happened to Christianity was when it was legalized in the Roman era. That made it easy to be one.

Now I have to go to class, learn to help others by stopping people who think they have a right to commit acts that rob from others. Yesterday I got to sit through a lovely 4 hour talk on the Conviction of a SCUM in Atlanta who burned his trailer with three beautiful children inside....This involved some pretty graphic photos. Does it make me question if there is a GOD? No there is a God and there is also a SATAN. I find Both most often in the very humans around me. The challenge is to learn where GOD is in you, and where Satan is in you. We all make choices all that is good is from God, all that is bad is from Satan.

Suggest reading the Chronicles of Narnia.....

you believe what you want I believe what I want.

thats the kind of attitude i appreciate. unfortuneately, there are too many christians in this world that are hellbent for leather that their mission in life is to convert everyone they can, and will not listen to any other possibilities. the core of christianity is "christ is the only way". if you believe that, then it follows that all other religions are wrong. the other major religions, from what i understand of them, dont take such a specific, narrow-path view. they may tell you to look to god, or look to yourself for salvation, but they dont say that you have to believe one specific person is the way to god

which brings me to my main problem with christianity. one of the main suppositions is that to be rewarded and be with god forever in the afterlife, one must submit to gods will in life. i can see the logic in that, altho i am not convinced that it is true. but maybe it is. gods universe, gods rules, right? what i find wholly inconceivable is that if i dont believe that 1 person out of the billions of people that have ever lived is god-in-the-flesh, then i am eternally doomed. i must believe this, without convincing evidence or argument. there is no way of knowing exactly how much of the gospels really happened, how much is hearsay, and how much is artistic license. but suppose it is all true. im condemned to eternal damnation because i wasnt convinced by what sounds like any other superstitious mythology from the ancient past? if god is as just as you say he is, he wouldnt be that capricious! thats like not giving your kids christmas presents just because they stopped believing in santa claus, only a million times worse! if christians want to believe it, fine, but dont act like im the spawn of satan because i reject a bizarre fantasy.

crash - that is as wrong as can be and goes against everything christianity is about, i hope nobody teaches that in a christian church

submitting to god's will is a product (result) of loving him - there is 1 way to heaven according to chrisiantity and their bible - to accept jesus as your savior through faith

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” -Ephesians 2:8,9

crash, according to the bible, because all of mankind is sinful. god demands justice. the sentence god accepted for sin (disobedience) was paid by christ. as far as i know, there have been no plea-bargains

all of these questions and their supporting arguments can be answered by attentively reading the bible
