Squilax...
Long time no see. I'll be there, but I'm hiking a different route -- the tour de southwestern Harriman viewpoints. It's basically about a 10-mile route that starts at the visitors center on Seven Lakes Drive near Sloatsburg and ends at Tom Jones Mtn.

Anyway, I'll be at the Sloatsburg visitors center that Saturday morning if you want to come along -- time TBD, but I was thinking like 9 AM or so. If not, I guess I'll be seeing you at Tom Jones Mtn on Saturday night.

Cheers!

Can someone give me a brief overview of this trip. Meeting place, time, miles expected to hike, etc.

One possible meeting time/place is 9AM on Saturday morning (16 Jun, I think it is?), at the Sloatsburg visitors center on Seven Lakes Drive.

I'll be hiking about 10 miles to connect many of the major viewpoints in southwestern Harriman State Park and eventually catch up to the rest of the group at/around Tom Jones shelter/mountain.

I think the idea is for everyone to converge on Tom Jones Mtn Saturday night and party till the cows come home (or the sun comes up -- whichever comes first...).

Anyone else doing any alternate hikes to post here?

it depends on when you plan on coming in.

the plan is to meet at Tuxedo park train Station Fri. you can park your car there. (I will look at map at lunch and map out all the trails you will need) Then hike the red dot trail to the white cross trail then to the victory trail to Tom Jone Mt. we will not be at the shelter but across from it in the field like area.
Tree and Nj packer will be up there early Fri afternoon. I will be arriving later that night and drive to the short cut off of RT 106 i think and hike in that way.

so it really depends on when you plan on coming in.
when?

Lost Soul.....
I'll be hooking up with Phantom and doing the view point "guided tour". I've never been to Harriman, and this sound like a cool way to hit most of the views in one day.

*Then of course we'll meet up with the group for a good ole TT party.

arrive at the Tuxedo Park Train Station
it is ok to park your car there.
go towards your right and follow the tracks for a few hundred feet and then you will pick up the red dot trail.
follow that into a playground and then up a street.
it will then veer off to your right and up the mountain.
continue on till you hit the white cross trail. then take that till you hit the victory blue trail. then you continue till you come to the red dot trail again. go right stright up the mountain. you then will come to a clearing on the boulders and the shelter is on your right. we will be staying on the left side of the trail across from the shelter.

just stay right on all the trails. it is a easy and very nice trail

quick way in 1 mile: off of Rt 17 take RT 106 and follow that for a few miles. you will pass the first parking lot. that is for the white bar trail
continue till the second parking lot. that is for the red dot trail. park and climb stright up. follow the same directions but we will be on the right from the trail

any questions?

Gotta go up to my dad's near Monticello (Fathers' Day) before coming back to Jersey. Sorry, I can't share any rides this time around, as I'll be coming from one direction and heading out in the other.

That being said, see y'all there!

CP. I intend to spend Father's Day with my family. For me, I would like to relax and be with them on that day. So, I will be heading out kinda early on Sunday. There is parking nearby, at the other end of the trail, so hiking out can be short, ifyou choose to make it that way. Hope that helps...

I believe you are around Quakertown, right. If you can get up to 287, it's easy from there...
