“I changed my status to definitely attending. Now, I need to know the shortcut that Maple mentioned in an earlier post. I'll be driving up Friday night from Philly after work and don't want to be hiking in the dark for too great a distance in unfamiliar territory...

Also, is the parking area for this shortcut safe enough to leave an out of state vehicle in for 2 nights??”

“Mark-O's right! Seriously, I don't suspect the car will be a problem. Now, the shortcut is hard to describe. It's one of those "pull-off-the-road", little trailhead-type parking areas. I need to get to my map at home to try and estimate the exact mileage. I will post this later, ok?

Also, Maple will be picking up our car at the Tuxedo train station and parking it there on route 106. E mail one of us and i will give you the info on what kind of car to look for. That might make it easier for you to find. Or, if you are arriving at the same times, maybe you can hike up there with her. I'll be there with NJPacker already...

it is hard to explain.


it is about 2 miles on Rt106
you will see a lot of pull offs. but you must find the one that is for the
RED DOT TRAIL
it will be on your left hand side. the trail will be across the road on your right.”

“For directions to the trail head, look up Tuxedo Park, NY on Mapquest. The train station is right on NY-17 North. The trail to Tom Jones Mtn starts right down the street from the train station parking lot.”

“Got directions, got a map and I'm ready now. should take about 2 1/2 hours for me depending on traffic. Looks like I'll be getting to the parking lot around 8:30 or 9:00 PM.

Whereabouts will everyone have camp set up?”

“It's pretty much opposite the shelter. There are some bald rocks near the shelter, right by the (red, I think) trail. The camp site should be visible from there...”
