I'd actually written that before I saw your clarification. But heck, I got no beef with a 3 fingered rap (I was just given a f'rinstance). I guess you wanted to be sure Honey didn't think you were giving her the finger. last edited: 4/29/05 4:15:43 PM” 4:15:13 PM 4/29/05 “Shelby once caught a mouse outside and then, decided to bring it inside to show up what she had. She had in her mouth, pranced in, and dropped it at my wife's feet. She screamed for me, get the F in here! She pointed at it and said, what the hell is that. It was still alive, barely. I gathered it up, took it outside and bashed it with a hammer. Just a mouse, but it felt bad. I think a rabbit would be worse.” 4:35:46 PM 4/29/05 “Hammer?!? Bootheels work too, ya know.” 4:38:09 PM 4/29/05 “So does a welding torch.” 4:42:31 PM 4/29/05 “Or a brick.” 4:56:59 PM 4/29/05 “I missed you, welcome back!” 5:00:44 PM 4/29/05 “OMIGOD AERO!! That sounds like something out of Monty Python! Horrible, but strangely funny....” 7:25:52 PM 4/29/05 “"no uncertain terms" Nigal The word "No" would be the best choice for words. Have you not gone through a dog obedience course with your dog? Such courses are definitely worth while for the animal and, especially, for the owner. last edited: 4/30/05 10:13:28 AM” 10:12:43 AM 4/30/05 “Yes, we’ve been through obedience courses and that is exactly how I let her know in no uncertain terms what the deal was…”No! NO NO NO NO!!!”.” 10:19:35 AM 4/30/05 “Good.” 10:22:41 AM 4/30/05 “I was woken up this morning by the sound of one of my cats cornering a mouse in a closet. I don't much care that he's following his instincts and trying to catch a mouse, but gross, there's a mouse in my house! I would have totally freaked out if he had killed it and brought it to me in bed or something. EWWWW!!! Nigal, I missed you. Give Honey a pat on the rump for me!” 10:22:47 AM 4/30/05 “Nigal, I think this story was one you could have....left unsaid??? It's pretty disgusting! Like I said on the thread about the stolen dog, animals learn from positive reinforcement, not negative reinforcement which only makes them fear you and ruins your bond with them. Your dog did most certainly not understand that she should not eat bunnies. The bunnies need to be removed from where she can get at them. You can't punish a dog for what may come naturally to them for their breed, even if it was gross. Do you think she really understood that you did not want her to eat bunnies? All she thought is that you went crazy for a few minutes and scared her.” 12:37:15 AM 5/01/05 “"Do you think she really understood that you did not want her to eat bunnies? All she thought is that you went crazy for a few minutes and scared her.” Rest asured, she understands completely.” 7:26:23 AM 5/01/05 “I think it is a good idea he teaches her not to go after the wildlife...for the dog's safety. What if the dog finds a sick/rabid animal? it would be better the dog learn to not mess with it (even by means of a tap on the nose) then to risk honey getting bit by something.” 9:26:43 AM 5/01/05 “It's not that I don't think she should be trained, but I don't think the method is a good one, and besides, if a dog is not within your eyesite, all bets are off to them behavior the way you want them to without commands.” 1:16:05 PM 5/01/05 “Okay, let's use men instead of dogs in terms of teaching. A man is not supposed to cheat, but he does if no one is looking. If he gets caught, like Honey with the rabbit, he gets punched in the nose by his wife or fiance. What does that do to the man, it makes him more careful not to get caught. The same goes for dogs. It's like in the old days, people think if you put a dog's nose in their excrement, they will know not to poop or pee in the house. All it teaches them is not to do it in front of you. There are books out that teach behavior and their are behaviorists that will help people with particular dog problems, but some of them are not good and use negative reinforcement or things like shock collars, so you have to see what methods a trainer uses before you sign up wit them.” 10:55:50 PM 5/01/05 “I've been really lucky with Sasha. She is a highly intellegent dog (yeah we all say that about our pets right? But really, ive had some really dumb dogs too) I have never even had to raise my voice at her. She learns something is no once, she doesnt tend to do it again. Usually she just hangs her head if she is in trouble and gives this "poor me mommy i'm so sorry" look which usually makes me feel bad for even saying no to her. She has the guilt trips down pat.” 6:57:56 AM 5/02/05 “"I don't think the method is a good one, and besides, if a dog is not within your eyesite, all bets are off to them behavior the way you want them to without commands.” It does work and in most every case Honey needs no supervision.” 7:33:09 AM 5/02/05 “Nigal, I guess you and your dog and an "understanding":) My dog and I understand each other on a very special level, because of how bonded we are. What about men? Do they need supervision, lol? I know some women that think if they are "everything" to their husband's, their husband's won't cheat, because there is no reason to. Now that is naive thinking. If a person is a certain way, you can't do enough for them to not cheat on you whether it's a man or a woman.” 2:15:31 PM 5/02/05 “It would depend on how important the wife is to the man.” 2:36:12 PM 5/02/05
