Hero # 8752398

George "Chappy" Ryan

Once called "The North Star of integrity" by a Young Republican who was looking for a job, this former Illinois Governor was convicted of taking only $167,000 in bribes, barely climbing over the minimum $150,000 bribery conviction limit to meet the standards of a true republican hero.

Great effort Mr. Ryan, you are a true GOP Hero.

Claude Allen had long been a darling among the conservative right -- and Bush had even nominated him to be a federal appeals court judge in 2003, but Democrats blocked the move.

In announcing Allen's resignation, Bush called him a "trusted adviser" who helped "develop policies that will strengthen our nation's families, schools and communities."

"Claude is a good and compassionate man, and he has my deep respect and my gratitude. I thank him for his many years of principled and dedicated service to our country," Bush said in a statement issued on February 9.

So what's new about perpetrating fraud in the Bush administration?

WASHINGTON — President Bush expressed disappointment, sadness and shock Saturday over the arrest of his former domestic policy advisor, Claude A. Allen, who resigned in February, citing a need to spend more time with family.

Allen, 45, was arrested last week in suburban Maryland on charges he stole merchandise from Target and other stores, in what police said was a scheme that lasted months and netted him more than $5,000 in goods that ranged from a Bose home theater system to $2.50 trinkets.
[...]
According to the Montgomery County police, a Target store manager spotted Allen strolling the aisles Jan. 2 with an empty Target bag in his shopping cart. The manager watched as Allen placed items in the bag, then went to guest services and presented a receipt to receive a refund for those items.

After receiving the refund, Allen left the store without paying for other merchandise and was stopped by an employee, police said. A subsequent investigation showed that Allen had fraudulently returned more than $5,000 worth of goods at Target and department stores over the last year.

Police said Allen "would buy items, take them out to the car, and return to the store with the receipt. He would select the same items he had just purchased, and then return them for a refund." Some of those crimes were caught on video surveillance tapes, police said.
[...]
The charges also are another blow for the president and the GOP: Allen is the third member of the administration to face criminal charges. I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, has been indicted on charges related to the leaked identity of a CIA officer. David H. Safavian, who headed procurement for the U.S. General Services Administration, is fighting charges that he obstructed a federal investigation and made false statements in connection with the corruption probe linked to lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Congressional Republicans also face inquiries, including Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas), who resigned as majority leader after being indicted last year on money laundering charges. He awaits trial on charges that he illegally channeled corporate donations to Republican candidates in Texas.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rep. Bob Ney pleaded guilty Friday in the Jack Abramoff influence-peddling investigation, the first lawmaker to confess to crimes in an election-year scandal that has stained the Republican-controlled Congress and the Bush administration.

Beleaguered GOP leaders said Ney will be expelled from the House if he doesn't quit by the time they return to Washington after the November 7 elections.

Appearing before Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle on charges of conspiracy and making false statements, Ney acknowledged taking trips, tickets, meals and campaign donations from Abramoff in return for official actions on behalf of his clients.

Ney, an Ohio Republican, faces up to 10 years in prison. The Justice Department recommended 27 months behind bars. Ney's lawyers plan to recommend him for a Bureau of Prisons alcohol treatment program, which could cut dramatically the time he serves behind bars.

Dear Dummy,

If he were a democrat, we would have been saying, "it's just typical governmental pay-to-play", which looks great on a republican resume, but is true to the charges. Unfortunately for morons like noprob, he/she doesn't realize he's (Ney) been convicted of a non-sexual offense (although I might buy the 'raping the native american' arguement). Regardless, his offense is not of a sexual undertone, and metal midgets like noprob are either too dumb to figure that out, too focused on sex (because they can't get it), or mixed up with the other republican criminals who are involved in sexual scandals, to accurately stae a valid arguement on the subject.

Good night!

A casino cocktail waitress told police a drunken U.S. Rep. Jim Gibbons grabbed her, shoved her against a wall and threatened her in a Las Vegas parking garage after she rebuffed his advances at a restaurant Friday night.

But Chrissy Mazzeo, 32, told investigators she did not want to press charges against the Reno congressman "mainly because of who he is. 'Cause of who he is, and I just don't want to go up against something like that."

Gibbons, 61, the Republican candidate for governor, denied her version of the story and told police he merely helped a woman to her vehicle and grabbed her arm when she tripped and fell.

Don't Forget....
Don "The Chocker" Sherwood

Rep. Don Sherwood (R-PA)
Don Sherwood is a fourth-term member of Congress, representing the 10th district of Pennsylvania. His ethics issues stem from a domestic violence charge lodged against him by a woman with whom he had a five-year affair and from his receiving a financial benefit from an earmark he appropriated.

On September 15, 2004, Washington, D.C. police responded to a 911 call placed by Cynthia Ore, 29, who said she had locked herself in the bathroom of Rep. Sherwood’s apartment after he began choking her while giving her a back rub. Ms. Ore later filed a lawsuit alleging Rep. Sherwood "repeatedly and violently physically assaulted and abused" her during a five-year affair that ended in September 2004. An out-of-court settlement was reached. Rep. Sherwood’s conduct does not reflect creditably on the House.

In 2003, Rep. Sherwood, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, secured $750,000 in federal money for the Tunkhannock Creek and Bowman Creek Assessment and Restoration Project, which is overseen by the Wyoming County, PA Conservation District, which then used $10,000 of that money to buy a $21,000 truck from a dealership owned by Rep. Sherwood. Rep. Sherwood’s conduct violates the prohibition on members taking official action for their own personal financial gain.

When it comes to Fred Thompson’s burgeoning presidential campaign, there are a variety of predictable knocks. He’s lazy. He’s inexperienced. His most valuable skill seems to be his ability to pretend to be someone else. He considers moving to northern Virginia “getting out of Washington.” When it comes to his infamous red truck, he’s a shameless and transparent phony.

Emily Ham keeps great records!

The facts on Lobbyist Emily Ham and Deacon Harbin are at: http://www.ethics.ga.gov/reports and they are quite revealing. Firstly, there is a picture of Lobbyist Emily W. Ham. Emily is gorgeous! Very gorgeous!

http://www.ethics.ga.gov/reports/Lobbyist/Lobbyist_Name.aspx?&FilerID=L20060107

Emily also keeps real good records for the State Ethics Commission. Emily and Ben Harbin had dinner on Oct. 18, 2006, they shared Sunday “refreshments” on January 28, 2007, dinner on Friday February 9, 2007 and then lunch the next day on Saturday, February 10, 2007, then “refreshments” on March 14, 2007 and finally dinner on April 16, 2007.

Emily Ham’s address is 170 Boulevard Avenue SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30312. Ben Harbin had his accident at 327 Memorial Drive SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30312; a mere two to three blocks apart. What a coincidence! Can’t wait for Miss Emily to post her May 19, 2007 records!

One last very interesting observation about Emily Ham and Ben Harbin - Emily reports (to the Ethics Commisison) having dinner with Ben Harbin on Friday, February 9, 2007 and lunch with Ben the next day (Saturday - February 10, 2007) AND YET Saturday, Feb. 10th was “Family Day” at the Gold Dome. Obviously, Deacon Ben Harbin did not drive to Augusta Friday night to get his wife and children to celebrate family day at the Capitol on Saturday, Feb. 10th. Instead of spending quality time with Mrs. Harbin and the children, Deacon Ben is holed up “somewhere” having dinner with Emily Ham on Friday night and then lunch with Emily the next day.

What does this say about conservative Christian family values for a GOP Deacon?

Michigan Republican activist pleads guilty to sexual battery
7/24/2007, 6:42 p.m. ET
By JOE MILICIA
The Associated Press

CLEVELAND (AP) — A lawyer who formerly led a Michigan young Republicans organization pleaded guilty Tuesday to sexual battery for forcing sex acts on a woman while both were at a convention last July.

The case was headed to trial, but prosecutors reached a plea agreement with Michael A. Flory during a break in jury selection Tuesday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.

Flory, 32, of Jackson, Mich., faces one to five years in prison or probation at his sentencing Sept. 13. He also will become a registered sex offender. Judge Peter J. Corrigan will determine whether to classify him as a sexual predator.

When Corrigan asked if he was pleading guilty, Flory responded "sure." When pressed by the judge and prodded by his attorney, Flory then answered, "yes."

Flory's attorney, William McGinty, could not be reached for comment. His client had faced 11 charges, including eight counts of rape, kidnapping, aggravated burglary and gross sexual imposition.

Flory, who has a law office in Okemos, Mich., is the former chairman of the Michigan Federation of Young Republicans.

He was among the young Republicans, ages 18 to 40, at a convention in Cleveland. The victim, 21 at the time, was intoxicated and became ill, and Flory took her back to her hotel, said assistant county prosecutor Carol Skutnik.

"She said thank you and goodbye, and he forced his way into her hotel room and forced several sex acts on her," Skutnik said. "Afterward he was bragging about it."

The woman, also from Michigan, was satisfied that Flory accepted responsibility for the crime, Skutnik said.
