HELP! I'm an addict! “Saw this: http://www.gearreview.com/flatworld_orikaso.php and had to buy it..I've always been into origami and this set is very, very cool..I found a picnic set at: http://www.mgear.com/pages/product/product.asp/level1_id/0/level2_id/0/level3_id/0/item/105570 Wanted a red set rather than the blue available at REI...the snaps hold very well on the plate..the whole set is quite amazing, light, packs flat, easy to clean...and FUN! Goes so well with my Snowpeak chopsticks....yeah, I know..sick, sick sick (insert goofy face...hey! It's me!) last edited: 4/29/05 2:46:19 PM” 2:43:16 PM 4/29/05 “I wonder if it'd leak much? Sometimes we need to buy this type of stuff.” 2:46:22 PM 4/29/05 “I have seen those items before but l was worried they would leak also.” 2:48:06 PM 4/29/05 “Nope, Nigal...if you tip it and the liquid goes over the top, well, big surprise here, it leaks! otherwise, there's no way it can leak...one of the pictured uses is using the plate thingy to drain noodles..by tipping it so liquid leaves via one of the corners..no noodles will escape, just the liquid... last edited: 4/29/05 2:50:19 PM” 2:48:40 PM 4/29/05 “Oh OK, so it doesn't have like any seams that even leak then?” 2:50:30 PM 4/29/05 “nope, no seams...it's a flat piece of plastic with creases, no seams.. last edited: 4/29/05 2:52:14 PM” 2:50:55 PM 4/29/05 “Well, that seams like it'd workd then. Boooooo!” 2:52:05 PM 4/29/05 “sad, sad, sad...it isn't seemly, Nigal” 2:52:51 PM 4/29/05 “someone else posted that the other day already. If you need an extra bowl it's nice, but I am not a chef on the trail. I heat up the water for my coffee and my enertia meal. LOL” 2:55:51 PM 4/29/05 “Haha! Now you've hot me in stitches! Back on track...I've thought about using one of the disposable glad ware bowls in stead of a zip lock for dehydrated meals. This is as fancy as I get for dish ware.” 2:56:53 PM 4/29/05 “I love the disposable Gladware bowls..or, at least I did until I crunched one in my pack. I also like geeky gear....did I mention that? LOL” 3:02:08 PM 4/29/05 “geeky gear for a geeky women...lol just joking MHH” 3:02:56 PM 4/29/05 “i used to use the gladware bowls (if I had some of the lipton stuff with me and I had to cook it) they are light and hey..you can smoosh 'em if ya wanna.” 3:04:39 PM 4/29/05 “I still use the Gladware stuff..at least, I do at work..now, I shall use the Orikaso Flatware..they unsmoosh!” 3:19:59 PM 4/29/05 “The square, flat Gladware is best. Those bowl things aren't shaped to fit in your cupboard much less a backpack.” 3:21:53 PM 4/29/05 “hey, I have one of those square, flat Gladware guys..but........I .......can't ....... get .......it ....... to....... re....... fold ....... into....... a....... bowl,....... dammit” 3:26:37 PM 4/29/05 “Whoa, those are pretty cool, Too bad that no matter how flat it fits my pack is already looking like its gonna bust at the seems, maybe once I learn better tricks to pakcing my gear I can get some ;)” 4:02:13 PM 4/29/05 “OK , you sold me. I'm A gear geek. I followed the thread to REI.com and bought the cup and dish. ($10.00 + tax) I will see how it works and report back. Not going out again till May 13 though. Bummer!! :P Anything to save an ounce.” 7:34:24 PM 4/29/05 “I just finished eating my braised, curried lamb on top of 3 onion couscous in the bowl while drinking some oolong tea out of the cup...worked out really well..the plate can be used as both a bowl with a 4" square base and slanted 2 3/4" sides and as a shallow plate with a base that forms an approximate 5 X 6 base with a back rim of 1 1/2 inches and partial sides....one side does not snap shut like the same as the opposite side..kinda confusing but the design would make a great cutting board..by the way, the bowl has a triangular base and didn't seem to mind being microwaved..I like the bright, red color...” 8:37:45 PM 4/29/05 “If you are looking for confirmation, I'll give it. Geeky!” 9:10:50 PM 4/29/05 “Speaking of geeky gear. I was looking at Gregory accesories and saw they have a square stuff sak for sleeping bags. Supposed to fit in the sleeping bag compartment of the Gregory packs. Anyone use these or are they just marketing? Thanks. And mata, we got to get together for lunch or something I am in SCF fairly often.” 2:39:46 AM 5/02/05 “But are you in SE MN???? OK, will have to look at the so-called "geeky" stuff. LOL!” 7:13:06 AM 5/02/05 “I'll drive anywhere. I am about 60 miles east on the cities.” 7:25:33 AM 5/02/05 “If it ever warms up, we'll have to consider a paddle from TF to Oz sometime..whatcha think, SB?” 7:34:54 AM 5/02/05 “I'm always up for that. I did it last year with 40-50 mph gusts coming up the river. I felt like I was on Superior! When I got to the big wide part about halfway everyone else went along the banks, I decided to go right down the middle. I had whitecaps breaking over the front of my 16 foot kayak and washing up over my skirt. It was awesome! I raced a couple of canoe dweebs, they went forward, I went backwards. They lost a six pack. Which was lucky for me since I didn't have a six pack. I knew I could always outrun em frontwards.” 7:40:50 AM 5/02/05 “Sometimes it's better to go from Oz to TF carrying a large umbrella, been there, done that..LOL..that's the St Croix..90% of the time you have wind from the South.. last edited: 5/02/05 7:44:55 AM” 7:43:45 AM 5/02/05 “I want to go all the way to the Mississippi from TF though..” 7:50:59 AM 5/02/05 PLATE AS COFFEE FILTER! “Yes, I'm shouting! Someone just posted this link to me on the other side in our ongoing coffee discussion..scroll down to the 4th picture: http://www.actionoutdoors.co.uk/orikaso_dish_use.htm I tried it using a #2 paper cone filter and, it works perfectly! The only thing I'd do differently is make sure the grind was very fine so it wouldn't pass so quickly through the filter..this makes the Orikaso plate one of the "must have's" on the trail IMHO! So easy..no finger burning..” 1:30:02 PM 5/02/05
