Sacred Cows
Last night on NPR I heard some Zappa and I came to realize that Frank Zappa is just like Monty Python. If ya get it, it’s great. If ya don’t get it, it’s just plain stupid. I don’t get Zappa. What’s so great about a song about going out west to be a dental floss rancher? I don’t get 90% of Monty Python either.

Then again there are some things I get that everyone else thinks are stupid.

Zappa's guitar licks are as random as his lyrics. Sometimes brilliant, more often stupid.

I understand, Nigal.

When I was a kid, my mother and I would howl over Tony Hancock and the Carry On films and my (ex)sister and father would look at us as if we were from another planet.

On the other hand, I probably won't go to see The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is an American production - not because I don't like our Cousins to the South, Ijust don't get American style humour. I didn't enjoy Rowen Atkins, whereas I adore Mr. Bean.

American and British humour is, I think, like math and languages - one rarely gets both.

Canadian humour is just plain quirky. In fact, we are allreferred to as quirky in the latest edition of Climbing - think Dogma, Tremors and Night Breed.

“American and British humour is, I think, like math and languages - one rarely gets both.”

I think American humor is sad. It’s almost always crude and simply going for the lowest common denominator. Normally something to do with either sex or toilet humor normally evolving the denigration of women at the same time. British humor just makes me howl. I love the the movies made by the guy, 4 Weddings and a Funeral, About a Boy, Briget Jone’s Diary, ect.
And don't even get me started on Are You Being Served?!

It’s a matter of innuendo Stovie. Give me a good old fashioned double untandra(SP?) over the blatant crude joke any day.

Thanks, it's good to be back.

“You don't think "pussie" is blatant and crude?”

No because she's talking about her cat and pussie is an English term for cat. So it's a great innuendo.
