I've never been to Cold Mountain, but I hear it is a really nice hike.

I have heard many people talking about hiking to Cold Mountain, but very few people talk about it being a great hike. I think the attraction is that it is a southern sixer and the name of a movie/novel. I may be wrong though. It may be a fabulous hike.

yeah, its a good hike. Its challenging to climb from the trailhead at the BSA camp.

Theres a nice campsite/resting spot in the gap between Shining Rock and Cold Mt.

The nicest part of the trail is between that gap and the summit. Limited but impressive views to the south from the summit.

There's also a smaller campsite, but not a good water source about 200 yds below the summit.

I went last June and caught everything in bloom - it was great.

Cold Mt
Did a loop, few winters ago, up Little East Fork to Deep Gap and back Art Loeb. Nice spring on way to summit. No view. Summit small.
Not many people north of Shining Rock, the pull up from the scout camp is a grind. Shining Rock, in warm weather, has a few too many people for my tastes.
