Well, to me it's always be a Personal Digital Assistant, otherwise known as PocketPC, or Palm. To my daughters, it's a Public Display of Affection.

Can a personal digital assistant also involve a public display of affection or is that only when you go to the proctologist for your digital exam?

There is a difference between PocketPCs and Palms when it comes to Personal Digital Assistants. The PocketPC is a viable, useful tool for information management and the Palm is a piece of shlt.

I still haven't figured out my new Blackberry phone/pda. It can do alot, just haven't had the time to deal with it.

I've got the two Palm P138s sitting on the shelf to prove it. They both puked and died soon after the warrenty ran out and the repairs costs more than a I paid for them. Sumbiches...

My biggest complaint with the palm platform is the operating system. I just find Windows PocketPC much easier and much more capable.

does anybody have any expertise with hotsync?

somebody gave me a handme down palm m515. It will sync great at my office but for the life of me can't get it to sync at my home pc. says it can't get a connection...its a usb cradle. Any ideas?
carlette

hmm, it should recognize it as soon as you plug it in. I seem to remember that if you right click on the hotsync icon you can get to setup and custom, which should help you play with some of the settings.

its (windows) is not recognizing when I plug it in....but on the office pc it recognizes it immediately. Leads me to believe some setting on windows on this home pc needs adjusting. Does that make sense? I'm at a loss

have you tested any other usb device on that same port recently?
Sarge

a digital card reader was connected in one of the port. However I have this pda cradle usb connected in a different port.
carlette

6/21/05

carlette - just to check, could you remove the card reader for a little bit and try the palm in that one?
Sarge
8:46:08 PM
6/21/05

yep...I did..no recognition there either. I did notice under my computer even with the card reader unplugged the icon for that port still says Kodak.
carlette
8:47:36 PM

to clarify carlette - Did you get the cradle to install and be recognized, but it's just not recognizing the palm itself? or is neither one recognized?
Sarge

I hate Kodak's software!!! It's designed by control freaks.
Sarge

6/21/05

When I plug in the cradle to the usb windows doesn't give me the little pop up window that says "new hardware". So I tried to hotsync anyway with my fingers crossed but the palm then says "unable to establish a connection with your pc. Check your settings."
carlette

Is there a battery in the cradle?
Sarge
8:50:08 PM
6/21/05

since it works just fine at my office..true plug and play. I'm thinking that kodak has highjacked my ports so to speak.
carlette

I don't believe there is a battery in the cradle..
carlette

That cradle is supposed to be plugged into the wall. Did you do that? (sorry, got to ask)
Sarge
8:52:39 PM
6/21/05

lol...well no I haven't plugged it into the wall while its plugged to the computer.
carlette
8:54:39 PM

According to an online source, that cradle uses a wall-brick AC adapter. You should have a usb cable and an AC adapter for the cradle and both should be used.
Sarge

mine works without it carlette, but it's worth a go.
y2

mine has both the ac adapter and the usb branches off from there. I can try that but at work I just plugged in the usb.

Also carlette, if you are using XP, which service pack are you using?

If it's still not working, try going to windows update and update any USB or service pack fixes if you are behind on that.

you can get a lot of trouble shooting help here on their boards:

http://www.palmsource.com/support/discussion_boards.html

I've never had a problem with my Palms they couldn't help with, and believe me, I've had PLENTY of problems.

Well Nigal it doesn't sound like she wants to get any trouble and shooting the help is at least rude and usually illegal.

She should cut out the middle man Bison and just shoot the Palm.
