Alaskan Malamute? I thought he looked like a malamute. Malamutes have shorter legs than huskies, don't they? I can't remember...thought they are bigger boned, more muscles but shorter legged. He's a beautiful Malamute!”

If you don't have one already, I highly recommend a crate for your dog. They help keep the house safe from the puppy and the puppy safe from the house.”

“Oh gawd YES...he did whine all night, but mostly...oh gawwwddd.....I opend up that small hallway room (thank god for tiles) and there was #&%!$ ALL OVER, I mean ALL over! everwhere!!!!!!

Not sure what the breeder fed that dog though, it didnt smell. Sort of like he was still drinking milk from mom. Strange.

Anyway...I was glad, because not sure how I would've delt this morning with really smelly crap.

His stomach was't like a huge basketball either anymore, he looks almost normal now. lol

“Gem, you might also want to try and get him interested in fetching a ball. Try putting some peanut butter on it or something. Most don't have any interest in fetching, but it's a great way to exercise them.
Also try and get him socialized with other small animals asap. The one issue I have with D is that he loses all control when something runs by. It's a problem when he might run in the road chasing a squirrel, or chasing a cat into traffic.”

“Gem, suggested reading is Ian Dunnbar's "After You Get Your Puppy". It's available at dogwise.com. Anything by Dunnbar is(to me)essential when it comes to training. I can reccommend loads of books on the subject.

Sacco is on the nose about crate training. I'm a foster home for rescue dogs (and most of them aren't house trained). It's the quickest way to get a dog trained. It's also an asset for other times as well. Like when you just have to have the little booger out of the way, the safest way to have him ride in the car... I also suggest putting the crate in your or the kids bedroom. Dogs are pack animals and they feel more secure sleeping with the pack. It will help with the night time whinning once he gets used to it.

Gem, poor puppy had tummy issues. : ( Non fat plain yogurt is good for doggy tummies. And they seem to really like it too. Oh and canned pumpkin settles their tummies too. I used to fill a Kong toy each night with yogurt, pumpkin and a little peanut butter and kibble and freeze it. Then when I left for work the next morning, I'd give it to my dog to work on. Kept him busy for awhile because it was frozen. He was really into food. : )

We have an outside cat, and there a bunch of dogs, squirles and more cats around the neigborhood. I think he will be getting used to other animals just fine.

Man I was glad when I came home that I did not have to clean another mess. only pess staines on newspaper. Now with the crate it'll be much easier. :)\

“Crate was the best thing you could have done. We got one for Sacha She poopied in it 1 time while we are out of the house, when we got back she was pushed upside the crate trying not to get near it and she never did it again in the house period.”

Frantic...lets see how it works. I already like that he gots to go right after he's done eating. His eating times are a little strange, first meal between 1:00PM and 2:00PM, second meal between 8 and 9:00 PM. I may change that slowely.

I am still leaning more towards Takoda...but oh well..Yahto it is.

Cameron was all for Kodiak, but no one else really liked it because we couldnt' find the real meaning of it. (besides that it's an island up in alaska)

We did discuss EatsPoop in detail but decided that neither one of us really liked the meaning of the name.
