“"Formerly known as the UPS Outdoors' "Titanium Chef" competition, the name was changed to Tungsten after legal threats from a copyright owner. In the cook-off, participants used traditional camping ingredients and supplies to create authentic "camp food."" http://asups.ups.edu/trail/Articles/DispForm.aspx?ID=462 It's weird. I write these guys a letter last year. I was VERY nice. I explained that Titanium Chef was a trademarked name, and asked that they would refrain from its use. (NOTE: This is the same letter I had to send to Backpacker Magazine, of course. I'm sure most of you remember that, but you probably didn't know about ups.edu.) What's weird is that I never made any "legal threats." In fact I suggested that we hold a West Coast version of Titanium Chef in Spring 2005. I even offered to help them set it up. That was a year ago. Oh well. I guess TownDawg is a mean man.” 4:08:53 PM 5/04/05 “Like I tell my kids, somebody's gotta be.” 4:14:54 PM 5/04/05 “Are you threatening me?!!!” 4:34:39 PM 5/04/05 “Whatta bunch of little snots! Of course ya know that UPS is hoem to all the hard core christian do-gooders in WA state...explains a lot! I was hoping we'd get a Ti cookoff in WA state! I'd have shown up!” 5:11:16 PM 5/04/05 “Tungsten Chef! What a stupid name. No wonder hardly anyone showed up. Titanium Chef, often imitated, but never duplicated.” 7:04:41 PM 5/04/05 “They should have named it "Whiny-College-Brat Chef"” 7:45:16 PM 5/04/05 “heh.. you should write them sarbar.” 8:44:06 PM 5/04/05
