Kilt, Skirts, UtiliKilt?
okay...without going into too much detail re: my reasoning (chafing, hot balls, etc.) I have recently decided that wearing a kilt/skirt and no drawers while hiking looks like a mighty fine idea. Nice cool breeze, no more confined spaces for the little buddy...

Any guys with first hand experience out there? I'm looking at:

Hey......................Whatever Limps Your Wrist
You certainly don't get enough airflow when wearing shorts and no skibbies.

I could be wrong.

There are three things on this earth a man should never wear. Eyeliner, lipstick, and a skirt.

yeah, the kilts were out in force last year at Damascus. I dunno, after observing a few walking around I don't think i'd be comfortable - mentally or physically in one.

I gave up drinking. And I gave up wearing a utilikilt. If you have a 32" waist, I'll gladly give it to you free.

I'd comment that the utilikilt is quite heavy (about three of four pair of Levi's heavy), does not "ride well" and is of cotton denim, which would not be good should you have to cross a stream or a rain shower.

Sorry ladies, no pics.

BTW - ever see a women hike in a skirt? I'm thinking one should ask the females about this. Might be several reasons why one doesn't wear a kilt/skirt. I'm thinking of rock scrammbles that I slide down on my butt, for one example.

to answer your question BM:
I know there lots of women who like hiking in skirts. Personally I don't like it because....well...I could be climbing old rag and have you behind me with a camera. LOL

really though...I can't imagine hiking in a skirt.

oh, oh...but I know at least one woman that at least thought about hiking in a skirt:

When I was in the Army and much smaller than I am now I was adopted by a Samoan family. Whenever we were together the men wore lava-lavas. In Louisiana and Texas in the summer nothing is better than a light cotton lava-lava. Luckily when you are in the company of gigantic samoans no one makes any skirt comments. After I left their protection I stopped wearing that particular garment and I admit I miss it. When I visit Samoa someday I can gurantee you won't be seeing me in shorts or pants. I'm going native.

LOL...
Real women try on clothes in front of God and everybody! I forgot about that one Gem...YOU GOT ME!

Tim..They had some really heavy weighted material kilts at Trail Days last year then there were the ones I tried on. I really wanted to try one out on the trail...but didn't like the fit...made my ass look bigger. If I recall they are more like skorts...a combination of skirt and shorts...

I don't find skirts to be any airier than a good pair of shorts, but then again I don't have testicles so don't take my word for it.

Carlette...you've exposed me! I've been lurking over here and using my alter ego on the CH board.

Anyway, I think I'm going with the macabi. Made of supplex, and you can configure it into shorts for walking around and dealing with hillbilly types, then let it all hang out around camp to air out the buddies.

I remember while swimming in the creek at trail days some overweight dude walking up to the bank above us and wearing a skirt. The memory of looking up at the guy still nauseates me.

if you go for a kilt then you can't wear anything underneath it, though the mozzies might be an issue.

The reason us Scots wear kilts is because the sound of a zipper scares away the sheep
