Black Flies in the 'Dacks?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 8 of 8 messages posted.
How've they been? “I haven't gotten out since April 16th, and they were basically non-existant then, but I was curious how bad the black flies were out in the Adirondacks.” 9:34:10 AM 5/10/05 “i live a 1/2 hour south of the blue line and they've been out and biting me for a week or so.still bearable, but getting worse by the day. lumberzac is a bit closer and will probably be chiming in soon.” 9:39:03 AM 5/10/05 “What is this 'blue line' you speak of? Are they better or worse in rainy/cloudy days? I haven't been campin' much in the spring as you can guess. I'm more familiar with the skeets and deer flies.” 9:42:09 AM 5/10/05 “the blue line is the official border of the park. better/worse in rainy/cloudy/sunny? my experience is that when they're swarming, they're swarming. no sun, no clouds are gonna stop them. heavy rain and a strong wind will keep them down though.” 9:47:53 AM 5/10/05 “Yeah we plan on staying on a peninsula jutting out into the lake, for the wind-effect. We're bringing bug-nets and stuff. I just hope they don't ruin the experience and turn me off for a couple months. I guess the bonus is that it should be pretty quiet out there. Not as many people will be hardcore...I mean stupid enought to be out there I hope. Does deet impede them at all? At least enought to make it noticeable? I have some pretty strong stuff.” 9:52:33 AM 5/10/05 “a windy peninsula might be just what the doctor ordered. deet will help but i don't use it much. i prefer bug netting to deet.” 9:56:24 AM 5/10/05 “How about not being a wimp? Does that work? Because if it does, then Has is still screwed.” 2:59:10 PM 5/10/05 “as long as you're a 300# wimp. they've been known to carry off those who weigh less” 3:09:42 PM 5/10/05
