I am trying to get a little undercover work ;)” 1:32:16 PM 5/10/05 “lol!” 1:34:12 PM 5/10/05 Mathematical error “Girls = Time and (+) Money Not, Time times (x) Money Addition, not multiplication. Sorry to rain on your parade :-(” 1:35:41 PM 5/10/05 “Addition, not multiplication. I beg to differ Manaku. Just because a unit is said to be comprised of one unit AND another does not necessarily mean the two composing quantities are additive. For example, force is a unit of measure created from both mass and acceleration. (F = M*A) not (F = M + A).” 1:43:58 PM 5/10/05 “well, some deal with girls, and others deal with women! BTW Carlette: great answer!” 2:22:42 PM 5/10/05 “I'm only evil if you get in the way of cart when I am shopping, or is you are blocking the chocolate isle.” 2:27:46 PM 5/10/05 “The "chocolate isle"? Pray tell, where is this, so I can tell my wife?” 2:49:55 PM 5/10/05 “right next to the troll counter” 2:52:03 PM 5/10/05 “I think Manuka is correct in saying that Time AND money is the equivalent of Time + Money, not Time * Money... I'm putting this problem to Thinkbubelz, who was a Math Major... :-)” 3:34:16 PM 5/10/05 “So DeoreDX, Two AND Three = Six Two and Three could equally be one and a half, or two thirds using division. Of course it could be Eight, or even Nine, or one eighth, or decimal 0.1111 recurring because no-one excluded exponentiation. Must be that new math. I think commom usage and the dictionary use the word AND to mean addition, which would make two and three = five. enjoy :-)” 3:35:14 PM 5/10/05 “I dunno, Time + Money implies that any amount of either will do. However, any man knows that the more time you spend with a woman, the more money is required, so I think that a multiplicative relationship is correct.” 3:36:27 PM 5/10/05 “I think bitpusher has it correct - you have to look at the relationship of time and money towards girls, rather than the wording of the sentence above it.” 3:37:41 PM 5/10/05 “But time is finite where money is not. There are only 24 hours in a day, but an infinite money supply if you are as comfortable with deficit spending as a government. If you have enough money a woman will spend all her time with you. But for some women no amount of money is enough, and all women can always use more money.” 3:43:42 PM 5/10/05 “I think manuka's post above proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that women are evil, regardless of any other calculations.” 3:46:27 PM 5/10/05 “OK... raise you hand if you have a math minor and took 12 quarter of calculus never making below an A. ;) If something requires both A and B does not mean you HAVE to add A and B. "Five and three equals eight" is a totally different scentence then "women require time and money". You require temperature, volume of the container, AND number of moles of an ideal gas to define the pressure the gas will exert on it's container. That does not mean you add temperature, volue, and number of moles to get your answer. Now stop thinking linearly. ;)” 3:52:05 PM 5/10/05 “Let me see if I can put you straight. Girls equal Time and Money is as such: Girls = Time + Money or Girls - Money = Time or Girls - Time = Money Therefore these 3 statements are true: Girls = (Girls - Money) + Money or (Time + Money) = Time + Money or Girls = Time + (Girls - Time) Therefore: Girls = Girls and Time + Money = Time + Money If you use your Money = (All_Evil)^1/2 theory Then Girls = Time + Money Is equivalent to: Girls = Time + (All_Evil)^1/2 Or: (Girls – Time) = (All_Evil)^1/2 And if you square that so… (Girls – Time)^2 = All_Evil Simple Algebra will yield you: Girls^2 – 2(Girls)(Time) + Time^2 = All_Evil Substitute (Time + Money) for Girls… you will then get: (Time+Money)^2 – 2(Time+Money)(Time) + Time^2 = All_Evil Which Translates To: Time^2 + 2(Time)(Money) + Money^2 + Time^2 = All Evil Which actually gives you: 2Time^2 + 2(Time)(Money) + Money^2 = All_Evil Which is nowhere near Girls = Evil… :-)” 3:52:30 PM 5/10/05 “for the math un-initiated, ^2 means "Squared"... And no, that didn't require 12 terms of Calc.... last edited: 5/10/05 3:56:04 PM” 3:54:59 PM 5/10/05 “OK... raise you hand if you have a math minor and took 12 quarter of calculus never making below an A. ;) - DDX Big deal, who didn't? LOL ;-) 4 full semesters of Calculus, two more of DE last edited: 5/10/05 4:17:53 PM” 4:11:00 PM 5/10/05 “Um, me, but I am a systems programmer and only have to understand a =a + 1;” 4:12:03 PM 5/10/05 “How about this one... In a room full of engineers (male AND female), the rubber stopper to the sink flipped upside down (therefore the stopper handle was not present to remove the stopper from the sink.) And NO, the sink wasn't full of dirty dish water, just about an inch... and it was clear water... You'd think 1 of them would have figured out how to get the stopper out of the sink (it was well-suctioned and there was no handle on the bottom side of the stopper.)... But no...an artist who had 60 credits of math and science was the one who extracted the stopper..... How, might you ask? Well, let's see if any of "youse guys" can figure out the solution to the problem... :-)” 4:28:22 PM 5/10/05 “I bet it was an evil woman that put the stopper in upside down. ;-)” 4:30:40 PM 5/10/05 “Nope, actually, I think one of the engineers caused the stopper to be placed in the wrong position-- since it fit either way.... :P” 4:32:11 PM 5/10/05 “Well, you could lean over the sink, put your open mouth over the stopper, and suck it out probably.” 4:33:41 PM 5/10/05 “You first Bit.... The rest of the room will stand back and watch...” 4:34:47 PM 5/10/05 “A coupla lbs of C4 should do the trick.” 4:35:06 PM 5/10/05 “I would say it depends what sink. if it's a double sink you could create air pressure. No way you went to the extreme, turned of the water, and removed the pipe. i don't know..took a knife stabbed the sucker and pulled? pliers? Heeheehee curious now” 4:36:18 PM 5/10/05 “Come on DDX... What... are you afraid of??? or are you at the sink now trying to get the stopper out?! :-) I'll hit the dinger once all of the guesses are in! :-) last edited: 5/10/05 4:40:08 PM” 4:39:52 PM 5/10/05 “I think my plan got the stopper out just fine. And I took one semester of Math, not even using those concepts for my solution. last edited: 5/10/05 4:41:36 PM” 4:40:55 PM 5/10/05 “Deore??? Any solutions?! :-) Maybe his solution is to buy a new pair of shoes before calling the plumber.... last edited: 5/10/05 4:45:02 PM” 4:43:59 PM 5/10/05 “DDX - don't all engineers have a math minor by default? We may not get to call it a minor, but still.” 4:54:48 PM 5/10/05 “LOL... Anyone who's an engineer and doesn't have a math minor probably rides on a train...” 5:03:46 PM 5/10/05 “So what if there are two girls? Is the Evilness doubled or squared?” 5:17:48 PM 5/10/05 “hey i'm an engineer without a math minor. ofcourse i went to a state school.” 5:33:27 PM 5/10/05 “I stand corrected sacco... Yes, you can be an engineer without having a math minor. However, it's hard to be an engineer without ever having taken math...” 6:43:33 PM 5/10/05 “don't feel too bad pink, i'm only class short of a minor. i just didn't care” 6:56:38 PM 5/10/05 “math sux” 7:25:31 PM 5/10/05 “I gotta back Manuka. One could easily substitute girls are time + money for girls are time and money, but not "girls are time multiplied by money" or "time times money." I can't back pink's rebuttal because pink ignores the hypothesis that time = money, without providing a reason for doing so.” 8:47:07 PM 5/10/05 “another argument for the time + money theory. To get a girl you can put in either a lot of time, or just pay a lot of money. And once you have the girl, the one you spent time to get will cost you a lot of money, .. and the one you just spent money to get may have you serving time.” 8:11:15 AM 5/11/05 ““math sux” Roam Around Ahh yes, there be another Parrothead in our Phlock.” 8:52:50 AM 5/11/05 “my high school calculus teacher told me I should stick with art :D LOL” 8:54:54 AM 5/11/05
