Tent Advice

“Good morning all. I'm new to the board and the sport of backpacking. My wife and I have been treking for 1 year and have spent most of our time in the Smoky Mtns.

This question has probably been asked a hundred times, so I'll make it 101.

We are looking for a new 2 person, 3 season tent. We currently use a Kelty Streamside 2, but it has seen better days and I'm looking for something with less weight.
I'm considering the MSR Hubba Hubba. Comments? Any other tents that you can recommend would be greatly appreciated.

I dig my REI half dome ...two doors and two vestibules are great for two people trips.”

I like the fact that it includes the footprint and gear loft, however at 6+ lbs it's a little heavier than what I'm looking for. Thoughts? Keep the suggestions coming. I'm home from work today and have nothing else to do but research and window shop. A trip to REI could happen this afternoon!”

The Kelty Gunnison 2 is another good choice and a good buy. The weight can be split almost exactly between two people.”

“pakratz, Im in a very similar boat in that my wife has recently gotten into backpacking with me, so for the 1st time I've been looking for a 2 person 3 season tent. I just couldnt pass on the $219 deal on the HubbaHubba at the REI sale. The TNF Tadpole23 is also on sale at REI for $139, but less space with only one door/vestible, I bought it and took it back. The Halfdome would be a good tent, but with the HubbaHubba on sale it was the winner.”

“My husband and I have a Hubba Hubba and it's the best tent we've owned. It is a little breezy if not pitched tight but that hasn't been a problem yet, even in cooler weather. It's completely rainproof and has no condensation problems. We take it to the Smokies.”
