Don't know the size, Pink. But it's just enough peanut butter per "sleeve" or "stix" for one bagel.

No, not the chocolate ones! They were good. But I'll settle for just the regular stuff. Perfect on my bagel at lunch time on the trail. Time to call the 800 number I guess.

'course recently I decided to switch to flat bread (the truly flat stuff, not semi-squishy) since that stuff is lighter and just as indestructable as bagels. I could pre-spread regular PB on it and roll it up. No more need for the little tubes.

My wife bought some flavored flat bread for a recent car camping trip. A little mayo, rolled in some turkey and cheese, instant homemade wrap. Good stuff.

cool, I have an Andronicos Market near where I live. If they carry them they probably cost a bit, but on the trail I bet they're worth it.

And i see this slimjim type tube...that says "BACKPACKERS LUNCH" includes a 3 oz foil tuna/turkey/or honey ham pouch. 2 flour tortillas, 1 string cheese, mayo, and an 8oz water....

it was heavy as crap..and 3.99 each

Yipeee! I went to NY and ate all the foods I can't find or are not made right in WA state. No one in WA knows what a knish is.

I brought home some fresh ravioli, mozzarella and sauce I made with my mom.

Not exactly a food find, but for the bbq in NY on the 4th of July, I made my family German Potato salad, about 5 pounds worth with red potatos. Everyone loved it.

Here's another food find...
I found little "tubs" of Jif peanut butter (like the ranch dressing tubs). It's 4 or 6 tubs per package--found them at a grocery in Pittsburgh called the "Giant Eagle". Will have to look for these packs in Michigan... :-)

Also, for those who want another alternative to instant oatmeal or instant noodles... I found an instant rice porridge... weighs next to nothing... just add hot water! :-) No need to cook at all--it rehydrates even faster than the instant oatmeals... :-)

Here's a link to a picture of the package-- I found it in a Vietnamese Grocery in Philadelphia--but I think you can get cases of it online as well...

Here's a sample of one of the flavors. I happened to find it in beef flavor. The nice thing is that if you don't want to use the flavorings, they come in little packets (similar to the ones in ramen noodle packages) and you can throw it away and season with your own flavors if you'd like... I'm not a big fan of MSG, so I usually add my own dehydrated veggies or other seasonings when making instant noodles and porridge, etc.. :-) It cooks up almost instantaneously, so you're eating in no time at all!

TUBS or TUBES??

I've seen peanut butter in TUBES but usually in TUBS but I've never seen ranch dressing in TUBS.

I've seen ranch dressing in TUBES.

Oh God, I'm so confused!

Sarbar,
I also found packets of instant green bean porridge and one flavored with sugar & sesame (now That sounds yummy to me)

I've tried dehydrating rice before... Not great--too long to re-hydrate and I cannot stand the "plastic pellets" that "Uncle Ben's" calls rice... :-) This, however, is yummy AND quick!

I have carried peanut butter repackaged in squeeze tubes. You can get "empty" tubes from REI for sure, but I am not sure where else. I have two of them and I re-use them. Peanut butter is as close to pure food energy as you can get, but I get really tired of it after a few days.

http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=47591411&parent_category_rn=5760752

I am sure you can get these tubes elsewhere. You can also get peanut butter in squeeze tubes in the grocery store. I use these as a treat-dispenser for training my rottie.

I posted this on the "lunch" thread but thought I'd put it here too. I discovered a bread called Ciabatta(sp)(pronounced CHA BA TA) about a year ago when I ordered a sandwich on it from Panera Bread. It looks like now it's gaining popularity. One fast food restaurant even has a sandwich on it, I think it's Arby's.

It's flat and kinda stiff so it works great for packing. You get it from Panera Bread I know but not sure were else. Maybe Atlanta Bread Company? and I think I heard Trader Joes on the other thread.

LOL @ pitts... I know, but there aren't any greasy spoon diners that carry the PB in my area!

Frantic-- I found PB a while back in a tube that had a little Jalapeno kick to it. (good stuff-- not too hot, but just enough to make the PB more interesting!)

Here's my original posting--it's on this thread... :-)

The Jalapeno peanut butter was so good I ate almost a whole tube in a few days!

*********************************

I don't know where you are at, but a chain called "Meijer" in Michigan had tons of the Skippy Tubes on their shelves... :-)

I also found an interesting tube peanut butter by a brand claled "Jerry Boy". It's called "PB n' Go "Jalapeno Kick"" It's Peanut butter with jalapeno and other spices (including garlic). I'm guessing it has a bit of a Mexican flavor to it... out of curiosity, I picked up a tube... :-) (What can I say, I'm adventurous!) Just tried a bit on a triscuit... It tastes pretty much like regular peanut butter with a bit of heat afterwards... It's pretty good!”

Bit-- one word of caution wash your hands well before handling private parts after eating something with hot peppers.... (my friend told me a story of her ex-husband running to the bathroom to douse his manhood with water because "it was on fire"... They had been making salsa earlier that night and apparently there was still some jalepeno juice on their hands.... LOL)

pixie, my Safeway was done over, so they had big sales with coupon books they gave out. I took a few as did others, but they still honored the sale items w/o the coupon. Check to see if a Safeway will be redone in your area.

I mention this because they had buy one get one free panini, then the 8th one is free. I mostly bought pastrami w/swiss/mustard on long pieces of sturdy white bread. They were great, but not worth the full price which is $4.99 a sandwhich. The sandwhich is so flat, you can't see the meat in it. They also used ciabatta bread, but I never had that.

They also had two for one on soups that my store also sells hot. The Baked Potato was out of this world w/sour cream/heavy cream/chicken broth etc. I added extra cooked cubed potatoes. The tomato bisque is great and so is the cheddar w/broccoli soup to which I added cubed cooked potatoes and cooked broccoli.

Tyson Chicken Strips
http://www.tyson.com/Product/ViewProduct.aspx?id=291

I've used these a few times on the trail now. They are great to add to meals (like Enertia) or to use in a wrap (with cheese). They are suppose to remain refrigerated before use but with the cooler temps, I've had no problem. They come in a variety of flavors and are really good.

I believe they also make either beef/pork strips as well.
