That's cool. My wife buys these potato casserole things from Sam's. they come with packets of olive oil measured out for how much you need. I snag them for trips and we just use olive oil from a bottle instead.

BTW, Binks carries that pb and jelly squeezer stuff. He also has some good ole fashioned, not-preservative free cheese "product" in a pouch like that. I bet it wouldn't cost 1.09 for the pb and jelly from him.

Hey SC. those packets are sized for a meal. Yummy , had them at Philmont last year. You also must find the squeeze cheeze they make in regular and Jalapeno. they are the bomb. Nice find if it includes both the PB & the J.

A super cheesy find! WaWa convenience store has 2 oz. tubs of nacho cheeze for $.50 they are the same size and packed like the plastic tubs of JIF PB. tastes great and half the price and twice the size as the packets discussed earlier in this thread.

I found these in the Family Dollar or Dollar Tree. You get 7 tubes for 1.00. I like it since it is less mess than the coffee bags.

For those who enjoy a low carb lifestyle, and still want a hot cereal on the trail, or at home for that matter.

Our local hardware store has a good selection Mountain House dinners in their disaster preparedness display. Cases are 20% off, and you get the case price for 6 packages. You don't have to actually buy a case of one thing.

The first Sat of every month, everything in the store is 20% off. Case price on the first Sat is 36% off. We just bought 4 cases. 'Tis the season.

Btw, Target carries freeze dried fruit in single serving packs (I think 6 in a box) in the aisle that has granola bars, etc. They are very good-and affordable.
The ones sold in the baby section are by Gerber. They make fruit and also corn as well.
The Cereal Toppers are found with the cereal in large bags.
If you have a Fred Meyer's they carry Just Tomatoes freeze dried fruits in the natural section. Some other stores do as well.
Trader Joes carries tubs of freeze dried strawberries that are affordable and tasty.

Hey, y'all.

I'm thinking about putting together a book, or at least a resource, where I have a bunch of recipes for trail meals for other backpackers.

Please give me your best stuff. I won't compensate you, but I could provide a "shout out" in the print version at least. Perhaps, once I get going (after you have given me all that great material), I'll get a website up where you could shout my praises about how cool it was that I include your dish in my book.

Ya game??

Laqtis, I would hope you are not irate over me asking to not talk about the recent bad news.

What happened involved 3 people I consider friends. I noticed on the other thread you seemed upset. The threads were pulled due to various requests by other forum memberson both forums (I did not ask for that though).

I am more than fine with discussing it via email, privately. One of the people involved posts here as well, and their privacy to me is important. Maybe in a couple weeks it will feel ok to talk about it. But not now. Please, it hurts a lot right now, so don't press it.
It isn't funny. Please do not take it public here. It isn't right.

"Laqtis, I would hope you are not irate over me asking to not talk about the recent bad news."

Irate? Nope, not at all.

"What happened involved 3 people I consider friends. I noticed on the other thread you seemed upset."

Upset? What the heck are you talking about? We've all lost people we've loved at one time or another. But that is beside the point.

"The threads were pulled due to various requests by other forum memberson both forums (I did not ask for that though)."

So, we then should expect that every time there is a thread about someone dying on the trail, it shlould be pulled then. It's only fair, right?

Just because you, or I, knew the person, doesn't mean it should not be talked about.

"One of the people involved posts here as well, and their privacy to me is important."

What about the people who we have talked about in the past who have lost their lives and posted on different boards than ours?

Those three guys that died on McKinney (I believe) recently where stoned by "us" to the MAX. Everyone was on the high horse about what they did wrong.

Now that it happens to one of our own, we are not to talk about it?

We're all adults, we all take the same risks every time we step on the trail. Something happened this time with people that we converse with, and I would like to know why it happened.

Why Am I such a cruel bastard?

Because through the loss of others, some might be able to avoid the same fate.

Isn't that what we are all supposed to be doing here?

Knowledge exchange?!?!?

You can think what you want. I post under one name, and one name only on all forums.
You have the temper of a 2 year old, and the class of a stink bug. You are just annoyed that your thread got pulled. Grow up, you are worse than a snotty nosed brat who isn't getting their way. Totally classless here.
If you want to argue, then argue about what you are really mad about, and leave my business out of it.

The fact of the matter is that you are trying to dictate what happens on this board, base solely on how you feel it should run. You have no right to tell other people what subject matter they can and cannot talk about.

You've got some stones, I'll give ya that. You pimp your crap here and there, and walk around the joint like you own the place, telling "us" what we can and cannot say. What gives you that right, huh? All you've got is nasty words in response; you're a business person who pimps bping related stuff. I can talk about your business, and your business practices, how ever and when ever I want.

It's called freedom of speech -- get used to it.

We wouldn't be here discussing this matter if you and spin had kept your mouth shut. We have had unfortunate things happen to people on this board before and were quite able to operate fine without your "guidance" in the past, thank you.

It's clear that you're real emotional about this whole thing; perhaps you should step out side and enjoy the rising sun.

that's pretty discouraging for me to read laqtis. i have come to know sarbar1 as a fine person with outstanding character. i count her as a good friend. she has nothing to prove to me. i know there is the whole "on-line personality vs real person" thing and that we have never met, but really i think a lot of this is uncalled for.

Jimmy -- you're coming in on the tail end of last nights #&%!$ fest started by her.

I only started a thread asking what had happened in the situation, and why the thread was pulled. She got immediately #&%!$y and cried to Matt about it. She obviously doesn't trust the good people here to act accordingly when discussing a tough subject matter. That's crap, pure and simple.

Now, I'm left to defend myself for bullshyt she started. She got the horns only after she phucked with me first. She's only playing innocent now in order to play the crowd.

Wow Sar! Your site has really grown since I was there last. I didn't even know you had a store on there. I think the pink camo cozy is super-duper fan damn tastic! LOL!

I contributed a recipe to the Lip Smackin' Vegetarian book and when I got my copy I was a little disappointed because most recipes are weird stuff don't like. Your stuff is more geared towards duplicating expensive trail food from home. I'm gonna have to sweet talk my lovely wife into letting me order the book.

Went for a hike today with 2 of my good lady friends. We talked about our memories of who we lost. The sun came out, we stood at the edge of a lake. It rained, it felt like heaven was crying a bit. But in the end, we came away feeling better.

Nature does heal so much inside. She will be missed very much.

And we found you can dehydrate cake and rehydrate it. Ooh-la-la! So smiles indeed were plentiful at that lake!

Corey, I didn't bust on two dead people. I busted on alive two people who think they have the right to dictate was is and is not said on this public board.

Get it right.

I'm glad sar was finally able to find a level of peace she so desperately needed. It was obvious she needed some sort of release. Hopefully in the future she'll be able to learn and grow from this experience so that if it does happen (hopefully, it will never happen), she will be able to deal with it in more of a mature manner.

A group hike from the other board lost a member of their party to an unfortunate situation a couple of day ago in the Grand Canyon. The person who died, and the people in the party did not post here, or rarely do/did. The events of what happened is privileged information, and apparently, we are not supposed to talk about it.
