Rattlesnake on Gregory BaldView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 11 of 11 messages posted.
big snake “I can tell you the difference between a Wilson's Warbler and a Kentucky Warbler but I have no idea about snakes. Last weekend I did a loop at Gregory Bald in NC and I walked right up on a 5-foot rattlesnake. It was striped with light colors and had a black rattler. Anybody know what kind it may have been???” 11:35:55 PM 5/15/05 “ ![]() Look something like that? It called a timber Rattlesnake.. ~BW” 5:41:53 AM 5/16/05 “The timber rattler is one of the largest, and is most likely the one you saw based on the description. They are also one of the most cantankerous. The small "great basin" rattlers we have around here seldom get more than 3-4 feet long at the most, and are quite timid and hard to rile. I've always been fascinated with snakes, and even kept a rattlesnake in my house for a period of time when I also had two boas as pets. It kept waking me up in the night with it's noise though, so I had to get rid of it.” 6:37:02 AM 5/16/05 “note to self - NEVER break into hobbit's house!” 8:05:00 AM 5/16/05 “I knew some Madison County, TN who put a ring through their tails and tied them up next to their Mary J. Pacthes..... To Hardcore for me! (It was near Max's pacth) ~BW” 8:08:30 AM 5/16/05 “Madison County??.. * perk * Them's my stomping grounds. ..” 8:09:10 AM 5/16/05 “yo SuperTramp.. since I'm hiking up to Gregory in a few weeks.. did you carry the rattler off for me.. or just leave him to bite me.” 8:10:48 AM 5/16/05 TD “I am from near Asheville. I used to hang out off of paint creek road a lot” 8:13:41 AM 5/16/05 “Some Copperheads have rattlers too - not just the Timber Rattlers... I didn't know that until just the other day...” 5:52:23 PM 5/16/05 “I used to pick up and play with rattlers growing up, especially the green mohovies :D” 5:53:27 PM 5/16/05 “Spirit Coyote, is this you? 8:39:05 PM 5/17/05
