Yo-Yo or ECT?

“just a general poll here: given the opportunity, would you do a yo-yo of the AT (thru-hike, turn around, and thru-hike in the opposite direction), or the ECT (east coast trek: key west, florida to gaspe (sp?) canada)

personally, i would take the ECT. why repeat what you just did when you could add the florida trail and the IAT to your resume?”

but, a yo-yo would be cool too.. i don't know.. Key West would be all road-walking to Miami? And the Florida Trail isn't finished.. Maybe not from Key West - maybe from the Everglades to Springer - what is the IAT? Haven't heard much about any trails from Katahdin into Canada?”

“yea thats the problem with ect. lots of road-walking north and south of AT, especially south. iat is the international AT, from baxter peak to the atlantic ocean in canada. but the ect takes in the knife edge on katahdin that would be cool (and scary in full pack)”

“Ankle is getting better - thank you! I have a new exercise this week to increase my range of motion. The weekend tired it out even with a friggin wheelchair... I go down to one crutch the end of this week! Hope all is well on your side!”

“I did a leprechaun leap and the landing smooshed it. Ligament partial tear - the one that controls my baby toe and my second-to-the-baby toe and a very small bone chip. I had to stay off it for 3 weeks. Was able to start putting pressure on it last week, and hopefully will be hiking again in June!”

The leprechaun leap was a story... what really happened was that I was camping in the Smokies a couple weekends ago and a bear smelled my tuna noodles. He wrapped his jaws around my ankle and dragged me about 500 feet away until I dropped my bowl of tuna noodles... Thankfully, I had cell reception out on that mountain and was able to get rescued.”

“If I had unlimited time, and no responsibilities that would require my attention, I would prefer the ECT.”

“While doing the ECT take a sidetrip to do the Mountains to Sea Trail.”

“LOL, teh mountains have a lot of trails, and there are bits and pieces of trails between the mountains and the sea, but most of it is road walking. Of course, there is the miles and miles of Beach walking and teh swamp through the nuseock trail”

“I'm definitely interested in the "IAT" (From Katahdin up into the Gaspe), the southern trek from the AT into Florida is less interesting to me (flat and it sounds like there is not much thats remote there).

Anyway, I'd prefer the ECT over doubling the AT.”
