Seeing all the great suggestions you got for your magazine is inspiring. I've been thinking about what to call my therapuetic massage business. Might have to call on the TTers for help (although the perverts would prolly make me sorry, lol).”

“Name branding is one of the most important parts of new product placement. Any possible negative connotation is bad. This is why so many new products have made-up names, to miss out on any sort of word history.

My question would be, are the people the magazine is aimed at going to think that? Just because weirdos on these boards make fun of it does not mean your hiking audience will. The "weirdos on these boards" (isn't that cute how I cute myself, lol) are always looking to take things wrong and make fun of them.

So I don't think the boards are an accurate take.

All that said, I'd like to see something, I dunno, loftier?? lol... "Hearts in the Hills of Pacific Northwest"... ahhh... TOO LONG!

At the paper where I work I had to come up with a name for this little brief piece, with informative (and slightly smart-ass) questions on people using our local trail system. I came up with "Trail Mix." Simple, plus it denotes all the different activities on the trail system, by different types of people, from young to old.

“Here's another case in point: Suppose you wanted to create a magazine aimed at dog groomers. One might think that a perfectly good name for this magazine would be "Doggy Style".

I submit that it would not be.”

“Oh yeah, I should note that our trail system is the Root River Trail system, around 60 miles of connected BIKE paths used for biking, walking, jogging, roller blading, canoeing, tubing, fishing (runs along a trout stream most of the way). That's why I came up with "mix" as part of the name.

Plus the main hub town is a quaint tourism mecca with tons of B&Bs, National Historic District, professional theatre company. Most people work in these things. Kind of a yuppie mecca, in other words.

With the piece I try to have fun, tell what they like and what all they do, with the upshot being, it shows the economic impact of tourists in the area in a fun way.

pretty cool, eh?

Oh and that reminds me... I just saw on a geocache notice that somebody finding one I placed locally gave kudos to the local small sandwich place where they ate. The fun economic impact of geocaching!! lol, I have to remember to use that in a column.

Now..... back to Trailhead. :-)
