No more Wal-Mart DVD rentals, sold to Ne tflixView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 21 of 21 messages posted.
“Wal-Mart has apparently sold their DVD rental biz to Netflix. Just got an email from them to that effect, and you get the same message when you go to the DVD rental site from Wal-Mart's main web site. Netflix and Blockbuster both say they have 40,000+ titles, but Blockbuster is cheaper ($14.99 vs. $17.99). Who do I go with?” 9:11:20 AM 5/19/05 “Blockbuster!! You also get 2 free in store rentals each month in addition to the mail sent ones. Counts for new releases and games too. It's very convenient. (I've tried both) If you watch a lot of movies though, you might want to test each one first and watch turn-around times in your area. Your mileage may vary. last edited: 5/19/05 9:19:59 AM” 9:18:59 AM 5/19/05 “That's exactly the kind of input I'm looking for, thanks Sarge.” 9:28:47 AM 5/19/05 “I use the Netflix and have been real happy with it. The place that sends them is one day away by mail. I chose Netflix because I have heard they have a bigger selection of foreign films, smaller indi films and tv series on dvd. I have yet to come across and odd title they haven’t had. But having never done the Blockbuster thing I can’t say what they’re like.” 9:41:20 AM 5/19/05 “NetFlix...we live in the Seattle area and they have a distribution in the Tacoma area-we return our dvd's and get a new the next day...woo-hoo!! Oh yeah, and I HATE Blockbuster...know why? They don't rent NC-17's and unrated movies. Pfffftt! If I needed a mommy to control my watching habits, I'd ask for it!” 9:41:51 AM 5/19/05 “I've been leaning towards Netflix - because of their catalogue, selection and service. You do have to weigh that against Blockbuster's 2 in store rentals and the price, but I think Netflix is worth it to ne. Tech - I'd suggest you browse through the catalogue and see if Netflix has things you want that Blockbuster doesn't. If it doesn't - give the cheaper deal and the retail pick-up option the first shot. I wonder if the Walmart deal means Netflix is looking to offer a retail option to compete with blockbusters.” 9:49:51 AM 5/19/05 “Hmmm, let me think. You can choose to go with the company with one of the worst track records of customer service in corporate history, or you can go with a company whose customers are widely considered to be satisfied. Tough decision.” 9:59:12 AM 5/19/05 “And what poor service are you talking about DocNice?” 10:35:41 AM 5/19/05 “If you get Netflix Ped you have to rent the movie The Hebrew Hammer. You'll laugh your ass off. NetFlix is the only place I've found it. I was thinking of doing the GameFly thing too for video games but it's like $12.99 and you only get 2 games at a time.” 12:12:15 PM 5/19/05 “Ah, that's why Net Flix has more foreign films then. A lot of them are unrated. I ditto what Nigal said. I like Net Flix for the same reasons.” 12:15:17 PM 5/19/05 “It did take a bit of learning how to set up the que and when to send back the dvds so I’d get the new releases the day after they come out. Sometimes there is a wait for the hottest releases if ya don’t do it right.” 12:18:12 PM 5/19/05 “Please tell us how to do this correctly, Nigal. I'm thinking of joining. Does sales tax get added to the $18 each month? You set up a list of the movies you want and they ship them 3 at a time to you, don't they? last edited: 5/19/05 12:38:24 PM” 12:33:15 PM 5/19/05 “Right. The trick is to put the newer movies at the top of your list. For me they get mailed like only 30 miles away so turn around is quick. After I watch the movies I hold them for Monday's mail. They get there Tuesday and the new releases are released. If ya send them back too early they send ya the movies next in line behind the new releases because they aren't released until the next day. The trick is to get the returns to them on Tuesday.” 1:07:59 PM 5/19/05 “If you get Netflix Ped you have to rent the movie The Hebrew Hammer. You'll laugh your ass off. NetFlix is the only place I've found it. i saw that at the video store the other day and almost got it. and i did think of you, nigey poo” 5:32:38 PM 5/19/05 “not gonna miss anything. I don't think our walmart rented out DVD's. If they did, I didn't know about it. Sneaky bastards.” 5:53:18 PM 5/19/05 “Does sales tax get added to the $18 each month?” 5:57:20 PM 5/19/05 “Yes, there is sales tax added Stovie. I didn't know that about new releases. But then I don't usually worry about new releases in general and only once over the several years I've used Net Flix have I had trouble getting a newer movie. It was Old School for some reason. It was no tragedy, believe me. ; ) If unusual films are not your cup of tea, go with Blockbuster and save the extra dough.” 6:03:56 PM 5/19/05 “"i saw that at the video store the other day and almost got it. and i did think of you, nigey poo” It's kind of one of those parody movies that's so stupid it's funny.” 7:29:49 PM 5/19/05 “Wal-Mart had an online DVD rental?” 9:45:59 PM 5/19/05 “Well it seems prety obvisoue why Wally World had to sell it off. No one knew about it.” 7:25:18 AM 5/20/05 “No catchy name, no advertisements. I'm not even sure how I heard about it so I could sign up.” 10:14:22 AM 5/20/05
