Now here's a sport for you! Kite surfin g!

“Last weekend I went car camping next to the Kern River below Lake Isabella with Todd and a bunch of his friends and family. Charles, one of the bunch, is a really outdoorsy guy who does a lot of different sports. He's just recently taken up kite surfing and this was about his 6th time out. The wind was really erratic up at the lake so it took some time for him to get up but once up away he flew, going faster than the jet skis out there!

Here are a few pics I took as we helped him set up and take down the kite...













And here are some crazy people jumping into the Kern River right near where we camped...

“my son is into that, although he has not made the leap to the surfboard. he has a large land kite that takes him up into the air 10-15 feet. he has a land board that he travels down the beach on with his kite. he has alot of fun with it. the shops around here won't sell you the kite sail and board until you have taken lessons. you can really get hurt on those things and they run about $1,000 just for the sail.”

“Ive done that sport :) its fun!!!! But one word of warning...know what you are doing before doing any tricks that involve jumping over rocks!!!!”

“lol, hyway, that's why you should have someone on land keeping an eye on you... Charles had 5 people, we were his pit crew!”

“used to see folks doing that in FL a lot - looked like LOADS of fun - they went really really fast and got LOTS of air.”
