In Need of Sympathy

“Okay, so I've got a little bit more than a week before my MCAT review courses and my research internship begin. My summer is going to in so many words, suck. I know this. I see the writing on the wall. I'd like to retreat to the Adirondacks for a week, but alas through a sequence of events over which I have/had no control I do not have a car. DAMN! I can't imagine it ever being 'easier' for me to get out and hike than when I am in college, so if it this hard already, I fear for my future career as a backpacker.

“What are you planning on specializing in?”

“I'd like to stay in research (developmental biology) otherwise I have a background in basic emergency medicine as an EMT but I probably wouldn't go that route. Cardiology, endocrinology, neurology are all of interest to me.”

“Well I suppose if you stay in research, when you get a job you might have weekends free.

Or, you could be like my wife's OB/GYN, who was out of town for both our kids, lol...”

“Whistler, my brother is in residency right now.. This is the tough part of being a doctor... If you do decide to go towards Cardiology, I could have a future contact for you... Of course, you may change your mind once you start to rotate among the different specialties!
