I Hate Frontpage!! “I've had my website, The Backcountry for some time now. I originally used FrontPage 2000 to design it and have really grown to hate it (FP2000). Since I can't hike right now, I want to give the site a face lift. I have access to Dreamweaver and GoLive. Which software would be better to use and how hard would it be to change the whole site from FP to the new software. Actually, now that I think about it if I'm redesigning it, I won't really need to "convert" the old to the new, I just need to copy the content from one to another. Any suggestions on what to use and anything that could make the site better? Thanks in advance! :) last edited: 5/25/05 12:43:23 PM” 12:42:45 PM 5/25/05 “download dreamweaver mx and create a site... you have the option to "get site" as longs you have no webbots (that's how u call them right?) from front page you should be fine.” 12:51:26 PM 5/25/05 “Just bear in mind that FP uses a ton of extraneous code during a build. I personally prefer Dreamweaver but GoLive is good product too. Dreamweaver MX (for now) is the profesional standard for WYSIWYG editors so there is a ton of support out there. Play with both and see what feels comfortable. If you go with Dreamweaver there are several free extensions that will clear out all the front page crap in your code. Check it out: http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14031” 12:52:52 PM 5/25/05 “Dreamweaver has a clean up command...try it and see what it does...just make sure you have backups of all your files. LOL I def. prefer Dreamweaver MX, it's the best WYSIWIG program out there. I am actually not to nuts about GoLive but many do love it.” 12:55:10 PM 5/25/05 “Egads, not that one Gem! That monstrosity is a holdover from Homesite, using it on live code is firing offense with me. Use the extensions and only for a FP import.” 12:57:39 PM 5/25/05 “Thanks "guys"! Either way, I've got lots of work to do, but I don't have anything else to do.” 1:37:12 PM 5/25/05 “If anyone's around... I seem to remember someone telling me about an "HTML debugger" program that's free online... Any idea what the link is? I keep getting an error message saying "done but with errors on the page"...(via internet explorer... I know, I know... a yucky web browser...) :-( last edited: 5/27/05 11:04:01 AM” 11:02:45 AM 5/27/05 “I remember the post but not the link or what thread. That is a javascript error not an HTML error. HTML doesn't error out, it just breaks and hunting for the problem can be a pain untill you get used to do it. Well, actually it's still a pain even if you do it a lot. lol IE is a fine browser, it just needs to be more standards compliant” 11:42:54 AM 5/27/05 “DreamWeaver MX for me too. As for errors.. sometimes they are so benign they are hard to find..” 12:09:33 PM 5/27/05 “Yup, like all other languages, one character out of place and its broken. Except for JS, if you open the error message (double-click on the error icon shown on the lower left), the error line shown might have nothing to with the line of code that is actually broken.” 12:24:07 PM 5/27/05 “Hmmm... New at this... I just put up a quickie site for my class reunion no bells and whistles yet, and actually, not quite what I wanted, but enough to disperse info until I can spend time next week to make it look nicer. I think something's wrong because my alert keeps flashing when I have the table of contents click to a different part of the page... grr... (I don't want to post my page at the moment..it's just a preliminary site-- dry and boring,--haven't had a chance to scan in pictures and other fun things... Also, for some weird reason, my counter seems to be going beserk... it seems to work for a bit and then all of a sudden the counter has a different look and number on it. could that be a glitch with Geocities? :-(” 1:49:18 PM 5/27/05 “techntrek. HOw true... I don't know how to decipher where the code isn't working! :-(” 1:50:06 PM 5/27/05
