Anyone ever take Cream Cheese backpackin g?

“Im wondering if any of you have ever taken cream cheese backpacking?
I have heard from a few that I should not take it with me..But I have in the past and have never had a problem with it..And the times I took it, was on a long BP trip & it was perfectly fine the whole trip.
Just wanted to get some opinions on this

“I don't know abouit cream cheese but I took a can of EASYCHEESE to the SE-Backpacking with kids hike and the kids literally chewed the top off.”

“I have taken eggs. Crack them ,scramble, and put them in little nalgenes. They last for about 3 days uncooked. Yumm.... although I like the freeze dried ones too real eggs make that weekend hike so nice. Eggs, baconbits, firetoasted bagels....mmmm”

“They make a "bakeless" mix. You can fix it easily on the trail. You do need to bring a little powered milk though. We use to take it on the 10 day trips with the kids and had it during the last nights meal. Its great...comes with Cherry topping.

“I haven't taken cream cheese but have taken baby bell semi-soft cheeses for nine days out. They held up fine and I didn't have any stomach problems or anything. I say keep doing it if it's worked thus far. If you ever get a case of the cha-chas stop taking it.”

I have taken cream cheese though. I use one of those lunch/six pack coolers to carry cheese, eggs, sausage, etc. It keeps stuff cool for a day or two at least, more if snow is available.”

“Me and others take cream cheese all the time..all you need is a creek or river to stash it in ;-)
Get the stuff in tubs, you can always freeze it up a bit so it can handle the hike in.

“You know those little single serving jelly packages that they put on the tables at restaurants? They make the same thing with cream cheese in them. They can be stored at room temperature, and will keep a long time if not opened. Bagels keep longer than any other type of bread, and I like cream cheese on my bagels. That's how I do it. Find a restaurant that uses them, and patronize the place often enough to stash up in advance.”

“All of the time. They sell those single serve packets ( like hobbit says) at most deli's. Some stores here carry boxes of single serve pkts in the dairy section.”

Sarbar..what else is on that bagel?
Something very good is cream cheese spread on those little cocktail size breads..they are about 2' x 2" square...in dark rye & then a few raisins on top, it's very good...some of you may have already had this combination.
Wannabp, do you need any help with your resupply food for your JMT hike? I had been meaning to email you to check with you on that.

“lol...Wrongbridge bought this "bagelwhich" at the locla Safeway before we went backpacking last weekend. I swear it weighed like 2 lbs! It had this massive block of cream cheese, veggies and meat. We think he killed a mt. goat with the leftovers..lol...
Btw, I have used shelf stable cream cheese many times-I find it at Albertsons grocery stores in the bakery..it is dang it, that brand that makes the shmeers that you can buy in the fancy cheese section in the deli....anyhoo, they come in 3 flavors.
Personally, I love the flavored cream cheeses in the tubs...especially salmon on cheese bagels!! Oh baby!!

Btw...if yer ever in Port Angeles, WA, the place to go is Olympic Bagel Company...you can see the Olympic Mts towering over it-it sits one block over from Race Rd...that takes you to Hurricane Ridge. The bagels there are something you have to eat to understand ;-) Oh man...I think we need to go backpacking in the Olympics, Pixie!!”

When we were in canada a few years ago, I was surprised to see that one of the restaurants had peanut butter in single serving packets, too!

I'm surprised that they haven't come up with cream cheese in a tube (like the peanut butter) yet!”
