Shawnee National Forest
I am leaving tomorrow noon to go down there. Could not find anyone to backpack with so I am going to do two nights car camping in a campground and just do day hikes on the R to R trail. At least I get in two or three bag nights.

Let me know the next time you're heading there. I want to go, but wife won't go with me because of SNAKES! Have a great trip!

Ok Let's plan this
I am moving to Florida at the end of the summer so I want to get down there again in June and July for at least a weeknd, maybe a long weekend. I can take of friday AND Mondya can you guys get away with that. I may also have most of August off as I finish this job 7/31 and start the new one 9/1.

Let's make this happen. If we take two cars or more, we can put on at the trailhead and leave another at trailail and then hike between them and drive back to pick up the other.

You can get a shuttle from the locals if you don't want to do dayhikes or backtrack. I have done it before. Call the dude that wrote the trail guide. He will can put you in touch with people that will shuttle you pretty cheaply. Or just stop in the convenient mart/gas station place in Eddyville and ask. They probably know.

Ugh. July/August can get pretty hot around there for hiking.

this is true, a little heat never hurts though

Heat?
I am moving to Florida in Sept. Best I get used to heat and humidity now.

Also, at night you can sleep in just skivvies on top of a bag (in my own tent) and let the breeze cool you down

The best weapon in my arsenal against hot, humid nights is a hennessy hammock. No ground is going to keep that heat from radiating away from me.
