Rain, rain, rain, rain

“I've been trying to remember what the sun looks like. It's the coolest wettest May I can remember here in the Northeast.

Last night I heard a crash. My wife and I yelled for my step-son... "What are you doing?" he said "It wasn't me this time, it came from outside."

Outside, the large tree in front of my house was down... the brick sidewalk torn up. The wind and the rain must have bent it over - but the side walk resisted until the strain was enough that it just snapped near the roots where it was starting to rot. The tree hadn't looked diseased, it had a full crown... it was a big old thing about 3 stories high. I've heard a few other trees have gone, too.”

“CB: It was lucky it didn't fall on the house or on a car. It occupied several car lengths of space along one side of the road. My wife sometimes parks where it fell, in order to leave space in the driveway for kids to play basketball. Since we she knew the weather would stay crappy, she was in the driveway.”

“It was very dry here up until the rain started.....the morel mushroom crop was crappy....there was a pretty big forest fire in northern MI last week....most of the DNR field offices had been ranking the fire risk as "very high." It does get old, but we could use it. Really getting green out there now.

and that is unsually cool for such an extended period in May.

The big storms that were in Lakes that moved to the Northeast were predicted to bring heavy rain here today and tomorrow, but instead there was 4 hours of thunder and lightning last evening with only about 1/10th. of an inch of rain. Clear and very windy today.
