I need help to log in to a Chinese backpacking forum (it's mostly in English), but I want to avoid any possibility of political pollution.

If you think you can help me, please click on my trail name and send me an e-mail.

Mandarin? Most Chinese speak Szechwuan, especially alot of the immigrants over here that work in fast food Chinese Restaurant business.

Its a harsh Language!

We all have given our order to a person at the counter : Number 24 General Tsoao's Chicken

Then the person turns to the cook and screams : &^%#$$#@(*&^%$#^&^&&&^%$

Turns back to and says "nice as pie" that will be $5.69

What is Political Pollution?

Hey there...

I speak Mandarin. The "official language" in China is supposed to be mandarin, but lots of dialects exist... a lot of the people in the Detroit area speak "Toi San" (sp?) which is from a small cantonese village I guess (not good on my chinese geography!)

Many people in the restaurants in my area also speak Cantonese...However, if you try to speak in Mandarin, they will usually understand you.

What are you trying to say in Chinese? (Also, keep in mind that Chinese is a tonal language... My family once attended a party where they had a poetry reading contest... The poem was written with words that sounded alike, but were different due to their "tone".... Depending on the region, there will be more or less tones (I think Cantonese has something like 6 or 7 vs. Mandarin which has 4...)

(For instance, the word "Ma" could mean a lot of different things depending on the tone used!)

Wow, no wonder it is such a difficult language. I know tone affects the message in English, too, but usually not the meaning of a single word.

Thaks, Pink.

It's a backpacking forum from (Mainland) China. I want to find where it says 'Sign in' and 'Log on'.

Most of the forum is in English, but not the ancillary instructions.

Someone from the forum posted on TT,but one of our smartarses someone made a facetious political remark and they got scared and ran off.

I bookmarked the site and would like to communicate with them.

BTW, dougmurdoch@yahoo.ca

My son is pretty good in Putonghua (the Mainland's standardized Mandarin)... although he is about to graduate high school and is a whirl of activity and it might be a while before he would be willing to be helpful on this. (My Dad's fluent, but he's in China now. I can barely read two characters and misprounce a few words)

BTW: Speaking is prolly irrelevant, since the wriutten language isn't phonetic - you can have someone who speaks fluently and couldn't help with the web site.

If pink or someone else can't do it, let me know and I'll try to con my son into taking a crack at it.
