I am going to rent a lakefront house with boatdock and 24' pontoon boat for a week on Lake Santeetlah near Robbinsville, NC in July. Anyone know anything about this lake? Is it an old nuclear dump site? Does it have toxic electric eels? Is it visited by aliens on summer eves looking for anal probe victims (a big selling point if it is)?

I went on a kayaking trip there last yr. Great lake. We didn't hardly see anyone on the lake.

Bring your beer cause none is sold at the little store on the lake

here are the pics I took

hey, I like that lake. I was afraid the banks would be covered with houses. Thanks for the pics

great choice, my brother & cousin & I are planning a trip out there as well this summer. we are planning on renting a boat & camping. 90% of the area is within national forest, the developed areas are typically 1/2 million dollar homes. A lot of fisherman & boating including non engines.

hyway, some of the group camped on one of the islands. Only problem they had was the ladies going to the bathroom. The island wasn't very big so they had to get in the kayak and paddle to land to go..lol

Nowslimmer, exactly what, I am afraid to ask, would you consider a great time :).

Ewker, why to another island? Were they afraid of the brown trout?

Bluskys, when will you be there? We'll be there the week of july 4th. I would rather be camping, but my wife would prefer a bed and four solid walls.

BTW, does anyone know if you can see any 4th of july fireworks from that lake, or if not, where is the best fireworks show in the area?

Nice pics, Ewker.

I was at Santeetlah Lake over 20 years ago. What I remember is skinny dipping there ;-)

Its a beautiful lake hyway, in a beautiful, quiet, relatively uncrowded part of the country. The water is clear and cold, but the kids will still swim i'm sure - mine used to.

I used to live in Robbinsville and loved it - the folks are friendly.

If the place is still open, go eat at "The Dungeon", its on the main drag in Robbinsville - might look a little run down, but the food is good.

There will be a couple of fireworks shows in the area, but running over to Murphy or Franklin might get you a better show. Probably won't be able to see any from the rental house, unless the little community of Santeetlah puts on a show. Ask around town and they'll tell you where to go.

Have fun!

Joyce Kilmer is a MUST if you haven't been there. One of the last old-growth forest on the Eastcoast.

I recommend it to anyone has not been there yet, as well as Slick Rock Creek, Snowbird, Naked ground, basicly any of the areas around. Naked Ground is is one of the first backpacking ares I went to when I was very young. I know that whole area. OUTSTANDING place.

Have fun for me...

Let me know how the trip goes Hyway. I have seen the lake, but only passing through on my way from Joyce Kilmer a few times, but have been wondering how nice it is.
