Hydration Pack
Probably not a good time to post every body is gone for the weekend, but. I want the perfect day pack with a 70 or 100 oz hydration bladder in it. It needs to hold coat, rain gear, lunch, etc, the basics for an day hike. What would it be?????

I searched hi and low for something similar - I don't buy things quickly ... Ended up buying a $30 daypack from Wal-Mart. I generally like hi-end stuff b/c I believe you get what you pay for ... but, I'm telling you, I got more cubic space, more features, more pockets, water bladder container, the works, even a mesh for jacket at Wal-Mart. Check out their back-packs. Some have hip-belts like the one I got and are meant for day-hikes. I almost spent $150 for one that held less and had less features.

ps - bladder sold separately, but still much cheaper

Costco is selling a hydration pack, not sure of the capacity of the bladder or the compartment but it seemed decent. Might want to check that out, it was $20.

Was the daypack you found a Eureka? I found this one online but not at any stores.

I am looking for a daypack also. Mine is just too small and I mean torso-wise. It is a great daypack for someone shorter or smaller than myself.

The brand I got was:

The main difference is that the outdoorproducts model had many more compartments (great for dayhikes) and the one I got had an AirCool back system (ventilation). They don't seem to make my model anymore, but it's almost identical to the "Hybrid" day and a half pack on their site (internal frame pack).

I think that one is missing the ventilation system, and a 2nd pocket behind the jacket area, but has most everything else. Mine came w/ a cheesy beener also, which I use for holding suntan lotion. LOL

A 2nd look at that Eureka, and it says it has dozens of compartments. Maybe they're inside vs. outside. The size is pretty nice too. That might be a good one to check out IMO. ... not sure about the color though : )

I don't care about the color, it'll be dirty brown soon enough! I only worry about the color if I am taking it hunting, which I won't, only dayhiking. I may order it, but probably wait till next week.

I finally thunk to wear my hydration pack on the job this week. I keep it in my truck, and was struck by a "eureka!" moment while I was fumbling through my junk searching for a tool or my hardhat or a beer or whatever. I returned after lunch Wednesday sporting a coolio pack (which matches my toolbelt) filled with iced Gatorade.

The effect is two-fold - the hyrdage, naturally, and a cooler core body temperature as a result of having the thing keep my back cool.

It's all the rage - the guys (and girl) all asked about it, ie, "what is that?", "where'd ya get it?"

I predict that there will be several more around the jobsite before the end of next week...

I'm a commercial electrician. We're building a large elementary school. The roof structure is well underway, but the decking (read "shade") was only begun on Friday. Finally - some relief from the heat...
