My original plan was to drive down to my brother's house, pick him up and do some hiking along the Florida Trail.

However, due to circumstances beyond my control, and involving a broken leg, "there aint gonna be no hikin".

Driving long distances at a time isn't good either. So...I plan on taking my daughter home on Christmas day. I then plan on driving to my mother's in Loxley, AL that day. All in all, that is about twice the amount of driving I want to do in a day, but that will put me on the coast Christmas night.

I plan on spending the 26th in P'Cola, the 27th on the beach overnight in Perdido, and am looking for suggestions on the remainder.

I want to work my way back north toward East TN to get back by the 30th. Any suggestions? I will be car camping and would like to spend the time in the panhandle if possible. Any "must see" areas?

south of Tallahassee, this is a cool spot.

Wakulla Springs State Park (and Lodge) The Lodge used to be run by FSU.

Grayton Beach is nice, go east to the Santa Rosa Island area. In the Pensacola area, Fort Pickens/Gulf Islands National Seashore. National Naval Aviation Museum is very cool if you like that kind of stuff. Lots of canoe trails, haven't ever done it but used to cruise the bayous in little boats. Very cool.

Weather can be an issue if a cold front comes through. Otherwise, the beaches are amazingly beautiful in the off season.

I recommend Falling Water and Torreya both.

Falling Water is particularly unique. It's Florida's largest waterfall. No that's not a joke. The area is pockmarked with sinkholes. A little stream runs through the woods and then drops something like 120 feet into a sinkhole. It's pretty cool.

I don't know how far they are out of your way (if any). They're both within a few minutes of I-10.

Thanks, arclite. That sounds like a definite possibility.

Yepper, Florida state parks are the best, IMO.
