Took the family car camping in our pop-up all weekend, in Strasburg, PA. Got an all-day-pass at the railroad on Saturday and rode the rails a few times, plus took in the other activities they have there. Gotta love the power and beauty of a real working steam engine. The ride is through Amish country, for 4 1/2 miles and then back. We ate lunch on the Dining Car our first trip, and rode coach on another.

Sunday we spent the afternoon at the Railroad Museum of PA, located right across the street from the Strasburg Railroad. Tons of cool stuff in there, from restored cars from the 1800's to modern diesel-electric locomotives. Even an exibit of black-and-white photos of old train wrecks. Everyone loves looking at a train wreck, LOL.

Got home Monday afternoon and opened the pop-up for cleaning. Had the nice aroma of the campfires we had each night still lingering in the air. Just like unpacking from a backpacking trip!

I highly recommend Strasburg as a family trip, even if you aren't really into trains. Its dead center in the middle of Amish country so there is plenty of other stuff to do.

Sounds like a good time TNT, glad the family enjoyed it. I spent Sunday on the PA AT. I took the Older kiddies (my 14yo nephew my 13yo) up Mt. Minsi for a day hike and some lunch. What a great day, the weather was awesome. My nephew is now hooked, and wants to go up Tammany on the "Jersey side". Another backpacker in the making!
