Dammit! That was one of the places I stayed for free while visiting.

Pretty cool, Conk! Those stone bases make sense as a place of that nature, too. They would make for a good fallout shelter, I would think...

I can't see anyone in their right mind calling this a frivolous lawsuit. I'm glad this poor guy, at least, got some financial relief from his rotten misfortune...

not frivilous - but a lot, perhaps too much, just because he's a "hiker"

Really, Crash or Sarge? Let's see you go to work and come home without your legs. Then, put a cap on your settlement. I have a feeling you would be singing a different tune.

This guy's life changed forever, due to the negligence of the workers representing a city agency. There were supposed to be two men piloting that boat. There was one and he spaced out. No back-up. The man lost his legs due to this. Then, icing on the cake. His superior was convicted of covering up on this.

Sorry, boys. I find your self-righteousness despicable!

Ironically, it's you that is being self-righteous, attributing extra worth to yourself in the hypothetical you gave us.

Treebeard - when I posted that article I wasn't even thinking about the amount of money in the lawsuit - I just posted it b/c it was a hiker who was injured and got compensated. AFTER you brought up the potential frivilousness of the suit, I thought that perhaps it was a bit too much. Then you go off on me about being "self-rightous" and "despicable", ironically using an example that is supposed to demonstrate that if it were me, I should want to attribute an unlimited monetary value to myself regardless of who has to pay for it.

Time for a little introspection, Treebeard.

My comments stand. Your reactions were baseless and typical spin, inserting connotations that were absent fromt he original context. Want to see a perfect example of being self-righteous? Just re-read your reaction. Time for a little introspection yourself, Junior!

Wow Tree - I said it was not a frivolous lawsuit and "perhaps" it was a bit excessive. From that you get my reaction was "baseless", "typical spin", "inserting connotations that were absent from the original context", and I'm being "self-righteous".

Yeah, somebody needs a little introspection.

Glad to hear that you are finally self-analyzing. It's a good step in the right direction.

Baby steps, Sarge. Don't fret. You are not hopeless. Pretty much out there where the buses don't run, but not without some hope.

mapleleaf - Fine ONE fight I started and I'll drive to New York and kiss your feet. Because TT has some people who are prone to want to fight says nothing about me. If you'll notice - it was Treebeard who started by calling me "self-rightous", and if you'll read what he said that in response to, you'll see that he's the one with the issues.

Poor ole pitiful sarge? Um, no. You are the one who brought up the thing about getting in fights. I didn't ask for pity. Just pointed out that I didn't start any fights. If you think that is asking for pity, not sure what to tell ya.

Tree - be specific. Where did I say I was a victim?

First you tell me that it's ok for this guy to be a victim and I should expect to be the "victim" too, then, when I say I didn't start a fight (because I didn't as if obvious from reading this from the beginning), you say I'm trying to play victim as if that's a bad thing?

Just because your wife (who I'm getting the impression isn't quite playing with a full deck) says I asked for pity, doesn't make it so - but you can believe what you want.

Hal, the Central Park Coyote, Dies

By MICHAEL VIRTANEN
The Associated Press
Friday, March 31, 2006; 10:09 PM

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Hal, the coyote who paid a visit to New York City and was captured as he loped around Central Park, died as he was being tagged for release in the wild, a state official said Friday.

The coyote stopped breathing Thursday night during the routine tagging procedure and biologists could not revive him, said Gabrielle DeMarco, spokeswoman for the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

Pathologists were trying to determine whether the stress of his capture or captivity or something else contributed to the death of the year-old, 35-pound coyote.

The coyote, nicknamed Hal by park workers, led dozens of police officers on foot and in a helicopter on a wild chase through the urban greenery March 21 and 22. He jumped into the water, ducked under a bridge and leaped over an 8-foot fence.

Hal was finally caught when a police officer shot the animal with a tranquilizer dart.

Officials had taken Hal from a wildlife rehabilitation expert in Long Island on Thursday and had planned to release him in a state forest in upstate New York.

How Hal reached Central Park is a mystery. He may have wandered into the city from the suburbs, or perhaps crossed the Hudson River from New Jersey by way of a bridge or a passing truck.

OFFICIALS are my company. It ticks me off because they never mention us, but if it was the ASPCA they would get mentioned!

this is very very sad :(

Unofficial Tallies in City
Understated Obama Vote

Black voters are heavily represented in the 94th Election District in Harlem’s 70th Assembly District. Yet according to the unofficial results from the New York Democratic primary last week, not a single vote in the district was cast for Senator Barack Obama. That anomaly was not unique. In fact, a review by The New York Times of the unofficial results reported on primary night found about 80 election districts among the city’s 6,106...........

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/16/nyregion/16vote.html?_r=1&ex=1360818000&en=cba4d3b30464e951&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&oref=slogin

**************************

I'm just SHOCKED!
*snicker*

Something similar to this happens in Big Cities all accross America. Some precincts, especially in Presidential election years, turn out more than 100% of the registered voters. Dems know how to cheat, especially in inner city precincts. It is very third worldish.
