Kids Pack
Deuter Fox 30
You've recommended this pack for kids.
Care to give a more detailed opinion of it?
Likes, Dislikes?
I need a pack (2 actually) for my girls ages 12 and 9.
How was Ford's experiences with an external frame? I'm considering a Kelty Jr for my 9 yr old, and the Deuter for my 12 yr old.
Any further info you'd be willing to share would be great.

Hey I am here! I was a bit sleepy this morning ...stoopid fridays!
I do love the Deuter...Ford loves it. It's one drawback is that it doesn't hold a lot-not that that is a bad thing when they are very young...keeps the weight down! The suspension is very nice, and it fits skinny kids well (Ford is very skinny).
Having said all that, if you need the kid to carry more than just their personal gear, get the Kelty. Most likely Ford will use the Deuter till he is maybe 9, then it will become his winter daypack (for his snowshoes and shovel), and he will get a bigger backpack, so he can carry half of our tent ;-)
And TD, anytime! :-)

LOL! I know sarbar is looking forward to the day that Fordy carries half the tent. : )

Speaking of tents sar. When I was out a Kalaloch, I had my Half Dome. It freakin dumped rain on us and I stayed snug as a bug in a rug. And I've never even seam sealed the thing! It was awesome!

Don't you just love REI tents? I have never seam sealed my Coupe...and it has gone thru snow, sleet, thunderous winds, etc. Same with my HalfDome 4. Love REI tents!! (Even my ancient REI Sololite was never sealed!)

Hello again.I forgot the thread name for the Dollar store spoons. I found some for FREE!!
Long John Silver Restaraunt has them for their thick milk shakes. The excitement of the find overshadowed the awkwardness of asking if I could have a hand full of them : )

Testing a Thermos "Lunch Sack" as a pot cozy. Its made of cloth and looks just like a school lunch bag but insulated. It's in the freezer as we speak testing its keep hot ability. $2.97 at Daves Sporting goods.

a half hour in the freezer and couscous was warm to eat. I give it a B or three stars out of four cuz the outside is durable and it folds flat and has a roll top closure that velcros.it weighs Nothing. (am I a Dork or what?)

I will post a pic later today or you can check at a Dick's not DAVES sporting goods

I'm buying the stuff to make up some trail meals from your great website.

I've been to three different food stores, Super Wal-Mart included, and can not find Knorrs Leek soup packs.
Found every other flavor, but not Leeks.
Leeks aren't grown down here so no one cooks with them.

What's a good substitute?

I'm making the seafood chowder.

Ask the stock manager at your grocery to order it for you. They generally will do stuff like this if you ask. I ask them to order stuff for me all the time.

Lol.....I know out here in WA state..that if I want funky items, I shop places like Safeway or Fred Meyers (ie..owned by Krogers, more upscale). They are pretty good at ordering stuff too.
Super Wallies are few and far here.

And yes, that book's manuscript is almost done! :-)

I visited a Trader Joes while I was at a meeting in San Diego. Fun little store! All kinds of neat foods and the prices were fairly good.
