This has been done about a dozen times.

Why the hell would you want a gun on the trail?

That's it! I've snapped! I'm bringing a gun to the next hike. Anyone who tries to steal my liquor, gets it!!!

I think TB has come up with a very good reason to carry a gun on the trail.

Glock 36. Light, compact, powerful. If one really felt that a trail gun was needed, this is the gun IMO. 6.88 oz with a full magazine (6x .45).

Packing Heat?
I pack heat about 1/3 of the time I'm on the trail. I often use this:

I like the bright orange packaging, they'd make good targets.

I'm afraid of snakes so I have a little over/under derringer chambered for a .410 shotgun shell OR .45 long colt (which is about twice the size of the military .45) I bored it out so I could put the 3" shotgun shell in instead of the 2 1/2". Has a little kick.

Over the years, I've gone back & forth with carrying a pistol. I'd have to say in 35 years of hiking / backpacking / canoeing in many area's, I've never needed it.

Sacco was right, I just picked up a new flamethrower that has a hydration bladder and a little mesh pouch for stuff. It's awesome.

I just heard on the radio this morning that Indiana has made it legal for permit holders to carry in all state parks effective immediately.

I heard the feds were stepping in on the ccw laws and making one uniformed law so all packing states would be the same. I don't lik eit when the feds always jump in and fukc with the state's rights.

HeHe!
I carry a Gov't model in my bannana hammock! LOL!
The women flock to me...
LMAO!
Come on Tree, you know women like going to the beach and seeing a 400lb man in a speedo.

Honestly though, If I put my pack on at the TH and one of you had intended to do a 3 day trip w me and saw me putting my .45 onto my hipbelt you would get back into the car and go home. I am in favor of this law only for the fact that not being able to carry in a park is rediculous. I still have no plans of bringing my piece on a BP trip. I would have more use for my 22" machette if I just felt I needed to carry some more weight.

I used to carry, but then it hit me...the more holes I put in them the more I have to treat them. Besides my worst experience was more than solved by NUMBERS.

Do you pack a gun in your daily life? There is less chance of having a problem in the woods than there is on the street.
fingerlakeshiker

I usually do not. The problem with my job is I do investigations of fires I do not perform arrests. Additionally I will only carry if it looks like this is a potentially violent situation. The majority of my investigations are in Inner City Public Housing Units...I have never had a need to carry there...so
XL400236

Yes I do FLH. Every day. You are right though. There is more danger on the street than the back country. With out a doubt. I can see where this may be a benefit to some day hikers in crowded parks, and parks near more urban areas. Women walking alone on the Monon trail for example. Something like that.
