Has this ever happened to your feet?

This might be a very silly question. And if it weren't for the fact that I am going to the Sierras on Thursday, I wouldn't even bring it up. But something funny is going on with my feet.

Every time I move them, the bottoms of my feet feel like they are getting stabbed with thousands of little pin pricks over the entire soles of both feet. It's sort of like the prickly feeling you get as the blood rushes back into an area that has fallen asleep. It is extremely annoying and a little painful. It started for the most part today, but I noticed it a handful of times yesterday afternoon as well.

Had I done some hiking this past weekend, I might have attributed it to that. But I was canoeing the last three days, and most of the time I was barefoot. So now I am paranoid that some little buggy thing has infested my feet.

What is it? And how do I make it stop?

Feet - can't live with 'em and can't live without 'em!

No, that joy of life has escaped me so far, knock on wood.

Amputation will solve the problem.

No, really, sounds like a pinched nerve, but if you are feeling it in both feet that probably rules that out. Might be the start of a circulatory issue. Bottom line, see the doc.

edit: ha, I see Gem beat me to the nerve thought.

Anyone spending a weekend with Lizs usually end up numb somewhere, but generally in the head. Other than that I can only suggest that you sat on your butt so long that each femoral artery was compressed, but then you're on your butt all day professionally...I mean as a court reporter, not what everyone thinks I meant.

You are probably tie-ing you shoe strings too tight. The pins and needles feeling is from lost circulation....

Didn't tie shoes too tight. The few times I had shoes on for the last three days I was wearing Crocs or thongs. And my feet never fell asleep. They just have that prickly feeling.

Hmmmm, if it's a circulatory issue, I will go to the doc when I get back from the next trip. Just so long as it's not a creepy crawly critter living in my feet, I can handle it.

Maybe swimmers itch or something? Too weird Ruby. I hope you get it squared away before your trip!

It could be something fungal.
Maybe something like Lamisil would take the itch away? I've used that before when I get the itchies and it seems to work wonders...

Make sure you keep your feet CLEAN and dry before putting it on...

Otherwise, maybe you pinched a nerve or something? I'd talk to your doc if this keeps going on...

I thought about athlete's foot or something, but it's not itching at all. It's just pricking.

Swimmers itch perhaps, but I think the flow was too strong on that river to have harbored that little bug.

I'm trying to hydrate lots in case I'm low. ????????

LOL, Nimblefoot. Ya shoulda been there!

Bad volleyball court sand? Nope, my feets are A OK.

Maybe a pesticide on the grass at the campground? I could call and see if he uses anything.

Maybe they're sunburned from sitting as a figurehead in that canoe with your feets pointed to the sun? hehehee

I don't want to scare you but there is a condition(which my father has) called Peripheral Neuropathy which basically sounds a little like what you describe...Basically it's a degenerative nerve disorder which eventually will make your out exremities burn and tingle 24/7...It has to do with the de-mylianation of the nerve sheath..similar to MS..There is little treatment for it because the pain is basically a phantom pain. I'd def. check with the Doc and see what he/she says

I would go to the Dr.

It's probably nothing, but I was thinking what wsdavies said, but I didn't want to scare you. There's actually a few things it could be, but it's most probably just a pinched nerve somewhere.

Sounds like you need arch support to me. I had similar problems before getting custom orthotics. Fallen arches can lead to other problems so you should see a doctor.

I am familiar with peripheral neuropathy. But this is a sudden thing, just started.

I have noticed as I have been drinking lots of water today that over the last couple hours it seems to be improving, though it is still there slightly.

Thanks for the offer, Lizs, but don't call him. If this continues for a long time, then perhaps I'll give him a ring.

did your feet stay wet for extended periods of time? Try rubbing them down or soaking them in rubbing alcohol.

Hmmmmm.....a foot rub would be perfect. Problem solved!!!!

I tried the rubbing alcohol suggestion. And I drank lots of water yesterday. They feel better today, with just a hint of what I felt yesterday. Not sure if there's a direct link though.

Probably easier to just cut them off. ;)

hmmm, if the feet are feeling better today, the parasitic creatures have probably bored their way further up your legs. Best to take the whole legs off.

Boxing Ruby?

subliminal suggestions...

Just force yourself to believe that your feet and ankles & shins don't itch... :-)

maybe go out and smack yourself in the face.. THe pain experienced should mis-direct your body into not feeling the pain in your feet any more.... :-D
