Great Smoky Mountains National Park soon will have a new trail map. This one will have a box in which they are listing the 10 most dangerous creek crossings, noting that there are other dangerous crossings, too. It sounds to me that they are issuing a challenge to people to complete their list of dangerous crossings.

Cool...I'm heading up there this weekend!
Also, gonna visit Max Patch, Big Bald, and Beauty Spot while I'm in that part of the state.

It's all fun and games until someone loses a torso.

stupid human tricks...
take an old set of boots and them on a rock in the middle of a torrent, and leave em there.

Stikmon, I've often considered doing that in the Smokies, if it weren't a federal offense to litter.

Treebait: Litter? Yes, I guess it is litter though.

I was trying to see if I could make a case for it being art.

HPM: Lose a torso?.. my gosh -- that would be a STRONG fast river.

worse thing I ever lost in a raging torrent (well sort of) was my only set of eyeglasses - that sort of sucked cause my eyes are kinda poor (20/350 or so) - driving home was a real adventure but the hiking wasn't too bad.

I picked up the new trail map last weekend. It has the Benton McKay trail highlighted in yellow. It also list the stream crossings that don't have bridges which can be difficult and potentially dangerous.
