Okay... has anyone ever heard of a wall sized map of popular trails throughout the U.S.? I've had this dream of purchasing one, marking the trails of which I've hiked, and framing it. The plan was to be a lifelong work in progress - to highlight most of the trails in the country ;)

I've searched online but cannot find any retailers that may have one. I know it's a tad crazy given the numerous trails and the size of the map, but it would be cool - would it not?

Just get some topo software and start printing.

At the request of a client, I had a wall size map made of the Chicagoland area which was detailed enough to have just about every street named on it. It came mounted to some type of backing material and had a laminated coating on it. It was several years ago, but I want to say it ended up costing a couple grand. It was pretty cool and I might have slipped away with it when I left the company since it was a pet project of his and mine. I didn't try though. He did catch chit from coworkers for spending so much on something they thought was frivilous. He was kind of a black sheep. I figured, what the heck, if he wants to spend the money...

So the moral of my story is that you can get about anything you want in a wall size print. It's just going to cost ya.

Thinkbubelz and I have a "National Parks" map...

We bought a "National Parks Passbook" a few years ago and have fun visiting the parks... Have had our book for 12 years! Woo Hoo! :-) In that time, we've visited every region of the country EXCEPT Washington DC... :-) Not too shabby! :-)

It only lists the National Parks howeveer, and isn't a very detailed map, so I'm not sure if that's what you are looking for....

In the past few years, we've purchase the topo maps of the places we've visited so that we can frame them when we get home... :-)

Well, we have good intentions... most of our maps are still in their tubes... LOL Now that we need to do some painting in the house, we may just wait to put them up...

pink..why wait?
Save the money on the paint and just put up the maps to cover the walls. Use the new found cash to go bp somewhere.

the man is a genius!

I've got most of a wall in my bedroom covered with topo maps of Rocky Mtn National Park.

One of the benefits of living single.

Because you want the scale to say: 1" = 1", right?

lifesize might be a bit large.... unless you've got a REALLY big wall.

On the Chicago map, the Chicago Tribune used to publish a huge map of Chicago with almost every street name on it, and it was certainly less than a couple of grand! Sheesh, if I would have known that 12 years ago when a roomate had said map, I would have sold it to you for a bit less! ;-}

It's only a little money - if you could have a 6'x10' map, backed and framed which would represent your life goal - money is of little value.

I think I'll start working on it

Yeah, I want one, too. Rob, it could be how you retire young, pumping out wall-sized trail maps. It's a great idea.
