Has anyone been to Winnemucca Lake?

“It is along the PCT just south of Carson Pass. I am taking a couple of younger backpackers there and was wondering about the suitability of the trail for a couple of newbies. According to the guide book it looks fine, but any first hand knowledge would be great.”

“Me and some friends are going on June 18 and 19. It is a very short trail, 2.5 miles from the Carson Pass trailhead to the lake. We should be at the trailhead by around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, and we would be happy to have you along.
The group dynamic is like this. Me, my brother in law 41, friend from work 50, his two sons 12 and 16. We can self register at the T.H. but just to make sure, I am will contact the Ranger, and if we need a permit I will get one for all of us.
The trailhead is on Highway 88.”

“Been there 1.2 zeeeellion times. It's a very simple hike. It'll most likely be crowded, especially during the day because 1.2 zeeeellion people hike there during the day as it is a very popular day hiking destination. But it's a pretty lake and good fishing and there is a network of glass tunnels underneath the lake which... oops. Scratch that last part. I have a big mouth. There are also some other nice lakes in the area for excursions if you'd like to explore after setting up camp and going pee.

“I knew Winnemucca had a couple of whorehouses, but I didn't know there was a lake there.”

“Its a great lake in the Carson Pass area. Go and see what the clientelle there have to offer.. probably just smelly hikers. From Woods Lake there is a trail up to Winnemucca that has a 2000 ft elevation gain in two miles. The wildflower zones change as you ascend and are usually very spectacular. Its a good backpack into Round Top and Frog Lakes too. Its even on part of the PCT.”
