Here we go again!!!
Just days after the Atlantic hurricane season began, the first tropical depression of the season forms in the Caribbean.

It is now a tropical storm...Arlene.

I thought the ts that hit El Salvador was called Arlene. This is the second storm of the season, and should be given the second name.

yep treebait - now I get to dodge tornadoes - though most of those tend to come down well east of me. Apparantly I'm close enough to the Front Range that the twisters develop a little further east.

I know what you mean Hyway. They are so powerful. Once you have felt a real hurricane on your face. It is the same reason we backpack. It is a test of what you are made of. It is a force that can destroy everything you have including your life in an instant. Lord help me because I love them so much.

My wife thinks I am crazy (or more crazy than my normal crazy). I like to stand in the yard while it blows like hell all around me. tree limbs skidding down the street, trees bent over and touching the ground, rain coming sideways, shingles flapping everywhere... and the sound, that enveloping deluge of roaring all around me.

ok, I admit it too. I am a sucker for a good tornado/thunderstorm/hurricane. There is something about the energy they give off that excites me. I want to stand out in the yard watching them come and dont want to take shelter. I watch the storm chaser shows on the weather channel and am just so intriuged (sp) by bad weather.

I love a good thunderstorm, but leave me out of the hurricanes. Once up close and personal was enough for me. Living thru the aftermath twice last summer was more than enough.

Lokks like Stovie will be able to do some surfing in his yak. Dang thing has a bead on Pascagoula Bay. It it moves fast it should cause a whole lot of problems. There are still tarps on roofs east of there though. Hard to believe that some people have went almost a year and their lives are still effected by Ivan and others. Good luck everybody. Arlene and all your brothers and sisters stay away from N30 W90.

Y'all come visit, ya hear! ;-)

Track has changed yet again and bateaux is correct. Damn thing is heading directly for me. Oh well, looks like it will be a Tropical Storm. Tropical Storms are no big deal.
Just got the word from the Boss, normal work day.
Rats......I wanted to go home early. ;-)

Good luck Stovie
Most of the rain will remain east it looks like. Still moving fast so let her get here and get out. Here is a link about New Orleans and the BIG ONE. I;m glad I live outside of that fish bowl. I've gotta work nights this weekend. Gotta be there for 4 pm this afternoon. I hope we don't lose power. A power failure in a chemical plant is scary. You lose power you lose pumps, you lose pumps you lose cooling, you lose cooling, you gain pressure, you gain pressure and you know what I mean.

If it follows the NHC track it will be fine. The NASA model actually has it hitting southwest LA. That would definitly change matters for you and me. Most all the other models have a bead on Stovie and the MS/AL line area.

It probably won't be a big storm but the real problem is that there are still many buildings that haven't been repaired from last season's damage. It won't take much of anything to put those poor folks back to zero again.

First tropical clouds are overhead now. Not the rain type just the puffy feeder type. The old mariners would know a strom was in the gulf by just looking at those clouds and their arc of rotation.
