Do they make it in caffine-free?

I was hoping the Zero would be a caffine free zero caffine drink... but it's not. But... it's the closest tasting to real coke diet drink I've ever had. I didn't think anything would beat diet Coke with Splenda.

Until you say why you are running the other say your post is useless to me or anyone else. Is it because Donald Rumsfeld had a big part of Aspertame's FDA approval?

my my - Please don't get defensive about the Coke posts.

I like sugar. It's the real thing. Get it? "The real thing". Get it?

I agree with sarge--give me sugar over splenda or aspartame any day! :-)

Aspartame gives me migraines even at low doses.

Thinkbubelz' Uncle and his family were part of a scientific study, because of a condition called "PKU"--Aspartame and certain kinds of proteins can cause retardation in children under a certain age (this happened to 2 of his cousins--in the years before they developed a PKU test for infants.)

We both stay away from Aspartame...

1) because it's man-made, you really don't know the lifetime long-term effects (YET). Only time will tell what the long term effects are...

2) We also prefer to limit the intake of chemicals in our bodies if we can... (obviously so much food has additives that it is very difficult to stay away from all edible chemicals). This is also why I've switched from eating Margarine to Butter... I figure why add weird chemicals in my body, when butter's been around for thousands of years? At least it is a decision I can consciously make..

3) I don't really drink much pop (soda/soft drinks) anyways, since most of them are loaded with artificial junk... Water is my preferred beverage of choice... :-) Give me a glass of water with a slice of lemon :-)

PKU is a very good reason to stay away from aspartame. Phenylalanine is a common amino acid and the ammount of phenylalanine in foods far outweight the ammount of phenylalanine found in aspartame. Consuming aspartame is ususally not the deciding factor the damage associated in kids with undiagnosed PKU.

It is great to find a new food or beverage that you like and helps you to stay healthy.

Like pink, we drink water. Drinking a Sprite or Root Beer is a rare occasion, usually for a BBQ.

Remember New Coke? Were they serious about that? I think they made it bad on purpose so they could promote "Coke Classic".
Sarge

real reason for the new coke product is that they wanted to change the "classic" coke recipe but did not want any old coke to "classic" coke comparisons so they used new coke as a place holder while all the old coke waseliminated from the market - then they "brought back" the reformulated "classic" coke which was viewed positively instead of negatively

in other words - yeah new coke was made delibertly different (~bad) to make the "classic" coke be favorably received

DDX
I don't think Aspartame was even around when my Think's cousins were borne in the late 50s/early 60s...

They are actually cited in a PKU study-- The older of the 2 was severely mentally retarded, the 2nd oldest was diagnosed with PKU slgihtly after he was first born. He has average intelligence, but apparently, they thought he must have had above-average intelligence, and could have been exceptional, had they caught the PKU sensitivity early enough...

The reason why their family was in the study is because both parents were carriers, and the children didn't become vegetative (which is what would happen back then... The doctors thought it might have had to do with having the gene for red hair as well... :-)

Anyways, the younger 2 cousins (both girls) from that family were diagnosed and properly treated from birth... However, years later, as a young adult one of the girls started developing severe migraines while in college-- she had been drinking a lot of beer and diet 7-up (with aspartame) (not together)... Her mom told her to stop drinking the beer, that it might have been the trigger, but it turned out that her migraines got worse-- that's when she realized that she couldn't have Aspartame....

You're right about consuming aspartame, as most children do not have it in their foods, but in the children, the PKU sensitivity has more to do with specific proteins... Now-a-days most are diagnosed at birth and are put on a special diet...

Isnt splenda made from sugar? ok...really now, i'm outta here!
Spirit Coyote

I think splenda originates from sugar, but all of the "sugar" characteristics are sucked out of the sugar and replaced with synthetics. Very misleading for the consumer!

Sort of like a marciano cherry isn't really a cherry (anymore).
Sarge

splenda is a sugar molecule modified. Genetically mutated if you will.
What makes this Coke One different from regular Diet Coke? I don't get it.

Coke Zero really does taste almost EXACTLY like regular coke without that syruppy thick mouth aftertaste. I have a coworker who is trying to lose either but cannot STANT coke, or Coke with Splenda but he tried my Coke Zero yesterday and went out and bought as much as he could.

If you would stop flapping your fingers and go taste it you will see it really doesn't have any of that aspertane aftertaste that we have all come to love with our regular diet cokes. ;-) That's what the difference is.

What I don't get is if everyone is so worried about their weight, why don't they just drink water? Never met anybody who didn't like water.

I don't want to go taste it. Because I don't wnat to pay for it. Especially since I think I won't like it. LOL!

Diabetics can drink diet soda. So It's more than just weight. Also sugar takes a H@** of alot of effort to work out of your system.

I tried some "zero" today. It was too sweet for my taste.

BTW Sarge: Coke and Pepsi don't use much sugar these days. Mostly they use corn syrup.

When I was in Jamaica I had a Coke there that had been sweetened with cane sugar instead of corn sugar. Oh, what a difference!

Thanks pedx. Corn syrup is sugar. It's not sucrose, which is maybe what you're thinking of.

I drink water though regardless.

I don't like that sweet stuff either, but I drink because I am thirsty, and sweet sodas just make me thirstier...I guess that's why I drink mostly water.

Sarge: You are right, of course corn syrup contains sugars (bio-chemically speaking). I was using the term as it occurs in recipes and ingredient list and for many there is a taste difference as bit points out.
