Pidtured Rocks MI (the Real Thread)

“Proposed trip: total of 20+ miles over 3 days.

Friday: Meet at Ranger station in Munising Falls (to pick up permits). Leave one car here and drive another to Little Beaver Lake area. Hike in from here and plan on getting to Mosquito on Friday. Total of about 8.9 miles (4 hours).

Saturday: Continue hike and plan on getting to Cliffs. Total of 6.9 miles (3 hours).

Sunday: Hike out to Munising Falls. Total of 5.1 miles.

We would have a total of about 20+ miles which would be half of the Pictured Rocks area.

Just a suggestion and I am open to anything.

“I'll call the office up there and get info on permits etc. and then post the process later today. I think I will have 1 guy and 1 woman coming with me so we should have a good group. I was with NW IN Ben last weekend and he is tentative yes but not sure if he will be able to make it. After I find out the permit process we will have to get firm comittments.””

“I'd love to go, But, I'm hanging it up after this upcoming NCT hike, At least until Sept, anyway? I think, I need to plan something with the wife, like a long weekend somewhere,anywhere. She worries a lot and getting away might help her out, except she'd probably worry about what the kids would be getting into while we were away? lol

I've been to Pic Rocks numerous times and have seen all sections of the trail. I can definitely point out some of my personal favorites for ya.

“OK, I have the form for the permit and the plan listed above is ok as they still have space at Mosquito and Cliffs for our days. The limit is 6 people and two tents on 1 permit.

theaikaterinedon't worry as there are now 2 women coming with me so we won't stick you in a tent with strange men, not that we are that strange.

I have asked my buddies to decide if they can come by this weekend so that I can fax the permit request. The permit is $15 which covers everyone and then we each pay $5 per night individually when we pck up the permit, so $10 each.

theaikaterineif you don't have a 3 person tent don't worry as I have plenty of tents.

There could be three women and 1 guy coming with me which makes five and theaikaterine
makes our six.

However, first come first serve so any trailtalkers considering it just sign up and you are in first. Ohterwise, we could see about a group site at Mosquito and Cliffs. We will decide on Friday June 17th.”

“Pink- Would love for you two to join us.

As mentioned above, the permit request was to be submitted on Friday June 17 and it has been. I put 6 on the permit which is the max. As of right now we have 5 committments: BFB, theaikaterine, and my friends Jeff, Jonnah, and Liz.

If Pink and Think are able to come we will just submit a new permit request for the group sites or just get a seperate permit for Pink/Think but for the same camp locations- Mosquito (7/8) and Cliffs (7/9).

We will be leaving South Bend at 3:30 AM and arrive at Munising Vistor Information Center at approximately 1PM EDT. We should be able to grab the permits, get theaikaterine in the car with us and drive to Little Beaver Lake Parking and on the trail be 2 PM. That would put us at camp by 7PM. If we need to delay for any reason theaikaterine we can do that because it won't be dark until like 9:30 right?

Hope this sounds reasonable to everyone. However, my dog is pissed as they don't allow pets in the backcounty.”

“Ok, I confirmed that our Permit was approved and they are mailing me written confirmation. Anyway, we will be camping at Mosquito on Friday July 8 and Cliffs on Saturday July 9.”
