I have on my channel 2 cable news which specifically targets PNW news, so it's all that's being reported on now, but they are just chatting and not saying anything just to keep the conversation going, but there is nothing new yet.

BREAKING NEWS
NBC News and news services
Updated: 11:58 p.m. ET June 14, 2005EUREKA, Calif. - A major earthquake struck Tuesday night about 80 miles off the coast of northern California, prompting a tsunami warning along the Pacific coast.

The 7.0-magnitude quake struck at about 7:50 p.m. southwest of the coastal community of Crescent City, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Web site.

A tsunami warning was in effect from the California-Mexico border north to Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Residents were being evacuated from low-lying areas of Crescent City, KCBS radio reported.

A hotel employee in Crescent City told NBC the quake “shook the heck out of me” and some telephone lines were reported down.

This story will be updated.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Maybe my PNW news which is for OR, WA and Idaho is lacking when it comes to CA????

I just heard my PNW news say the warning has been canceled by using the tide guages in the ocean.

Rockman, aren't the freaks in the Haight-Ashbury area? I don't think they will be effected by the warning. What is a freak anyway? I guess they aren't freaks, but hippies unless you consider hippies to be freaks.

Word here (Canada) is that there were some evacuations, but nothing happened and everybody's back home.

Ther are some questions about preparedness, however.

Speaking of California hippies and assorted other types, anyone catch Spouse swap or whatever it's called last night? A vegan control freak traded places with a woman from southern Louisiana; a real cajun. All I can say is, Yikes.

Im in San Diego. The tsunami warning was posted last night along with the location of the quake. It's understandable for the people near the epicenter (Eureka, Cresent) to be alarmed, but the fact that there were actually people in my own town concerned about this was pathetic. It would be geographically impossible for a swell originating from that quake to strike our coast. Anyone with a basic knowledge of swell directions and the resulting wave potential knows this. The December tsunami tragedy now has our own warning system in overkill mode.
